Wear proper shoes, take a water bottle (and perhaps a snack for a rest break (there are some lovely views from the top) and enjoy one of the region's nicest tourist attractions. If you're a geology 'hound', you'll love this National Park. Facilities include good parking, marked trails, a snack house with cold drinks and snacks, and guides so you don't get lost. Very interesting site.

There is a small museum on the bottom floor. There are English descriptions so that's nice. The view is good: Mekong River, downtown Mukdahan, Mountains and farmland. Mukdahan is a sleepy place so it's a good way to kill time.

This is a lovely new large Buddha tower which has been constructed in the last few years. Unfortunately they ran out of money. I'm sure it won't be long until it's finished and I will return to look at it. For now I'm not sure if one is supposed to navigate to the top by smart phone torch up concrete steps with no hand rail in places. Still once I got there the view was amazing if a little treacherous. I would wait for it to be finished if I was you and I'm sure it will be well worth your while even if it's not ancient.

This place gives you great views of the Mekong river and accross to Laos. There are a few eating places when you get to the top and some lovely walks through some well kept Gardens with some great water features. We spent over an hour up here just sitting in the shade taking in the view. We had a car but this place is only a few Kms out of the town so easy to get a cab.
