National Waterways Museum

Enjoy a day out by the canal in Cheshire, where time slows down and history comes to life. Designed by the great civil engineer Thomas Telford, the docks at Ellesmere Port were still in use as late as the 1950s. They were a marvellously self-contained world and when you visit the museum today you can still walk around its locks, docks and warehouses and visit its forge, stables and workers cottages. There's so much to explore from the handsome Victorian buildings, which house the museum's fascinating displays, to the locks and moorings, home to colourful historic and visiting narrow boats. With world-class attractions and a year-round events calendar featuring everything from beer festivals to historic boat rallies, there's always a reason to visit. Dog friendly throughout and recently awarded Dog Friendly Business of the Year in the Marketing Cheshire Awards 2018. Entry allows you to return for 12 months.

Some of the places were closed due to covid but this didn’t spoil the day it just means we will go again. Lots of covid safe signs and a one way system which adds to the experience, the engine room cottages and interactive characters made our visit an interesting one. Large car park and exceptional views of the Manchester ship canal and river Mersey. Although free at the moment there is the opportunity to make a voluntary contribution.

I AM IMPRESSED ! The place is nice, lots of space, free parking, well organized and very welcoming. I brought my son to climb as a competitor was full and we were delighted to find this place. You can climb without being constantly supervised by a "staff" i.e you can experiment, the place is really safe, the climbs are not to high but really challenging. The time slot of 2 hours is great to practice without pressure and with the freedom to do it your way. But the best of it is the atmosphere and the staff who are helpful, ready to help you if you wish to. It is a great place to spend 2 hours of exercise with no pressure, and with very nice people. (the coffee shop is great also.. the coffee ! really good !) At 55 yo, I started now to climb and I love it !

We booked a party for my crazy golf mad, 11 year old daughter. From start to finish we couldn't fault it. Very friendly welcome on arrival and shown to our private party room, which was equipped with a karaoke machine. After a brilliant game of golf, which provided alot of giggles and lasted for just over an hour, they went back to the party room where the food was waiting. We paid extra for the food package to be brought over from Frankie and Bennys. Food was lovely and plenty of it. They also had ice cream and slushys. The staff were so friendly and very helpful and couldn't do enough for us! Would definitely recommend! Thank you for providing an excellent party!

Wow! That's pretty much all I can say about the new current refurb. Half the price of the cold and cramped Cineworld in Broughton. I was told by my fiance to go the Vue instead. I wasn't disappointed. We're going again next week, to take the little one with us to watch frozen 2. Not my cup of tea. But at least the seats are big and comfy enough to have a doze in. I love the leg/foot room too.

We visited here with our 1 year old as we booked a shark dive for my husbands 30th birthday. The shark dive: +my husband loved the dive and was in awe of the sharks he came up close to +thorough instruction and scuba diving lesson beforehand +went into the reef in small groups of 2 +instructors were with divers all the way +instructors were even able to call sharks over to them +my husband came within touching distance of a few of the tiger sharks -one negative is that my hubby had to wait around whilst the other groups of 2 competed their dive so a tip for anyone thinking of doing the dive would be to go first. On the upside, if you go last your spectators will be able to get some good shots of you as the aquarium will be shut so no other visitors are around to block your view +2 free spectators +tour guide who took us through the scuba process and told us everything they would be learning The aquarium: +large variety of sharks +good size tunnel +small outside play area -we completed the whole aquarium in under an hour -restaurant is not great and a bit messy Overall we all had a fun day however I wouldn’t say it was worth travelling almost 2 hours for it, any sea life centre offers the same thing NOTE, the shark dive can take up to 4 hours so a long day for spectators especially with young children
