The Museum of Theatre Puppets will be closed for two years while the buildings will be renovated. The buildings, some of which date to the 16th century need to be restored, and the 35 year old exhibition will be updated. The work is scheduled to begin in January 2018. The Puppet Theater Museum was established in 1982 by collector Fritz Fey and preserves a unique collection dealing with the theme of Puppet Theater. Belonging in its inventory are a variety of puppets, props, theater scenery, and placards, as well as musical instruments from the continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe. A collection acquisition conducted in 2010 on behalf of the Possehl Stiftung documented more than 30,000 exhibits. Some objects are up to 300 years old. Among those artists with dual or even multiple talents who have been shown at the museum are such diverse personalities as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Hermann Hesse, Gottfried Keller, Arno Schmidt, Ernst Barlach, Janosch, Robert Gernhardt and John Lennon.
