The 7 Best Other Outdoor Activities in Nordland, Northern Norway

April 27, 2022 Rebbecca Marino

Typified by steep mountains and the flat lowlands where they meet the Norwegian Sea, Nordland is known for its stunning scenery. The Lofoten Islands off the mainland are considered among the world's best for travelers and include unique attractions like the Lofotr Viking Museum at Borg. Saltstraumen near Bodo has the world's strongest tidal current. Further south, Vega has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its age-old lifestyle of fishing and eider duck down harvesting.

Sea Safari Andenes

Humpback whales, Orca's, Spermwhales and Finnwhales are frequently close to Andenes. We went there to visit the Spermwhales in a RIB. We were so exited because of the boattrip as the whales aswell. After a 30 minute boattrip the captain found the whales and we went to them. And it was so special to see these big friendly animals in real life. There was a group of 5 Spermwhales and one of them was so curious about the boat that he came to us. We really had the chance to see the Spermwhales very well and we made great pictures! Close to the harbour we visited a group of seals who where resting on a little island. Although not as impressive as the whales they where very cute (and much bigger then I thought) We were in Andenes in March and we will come back in januari when the Humpbackwhales and the Orca's are back!!!

We were able to see sperm whales (experienced three dives, and was able to take a great picture of the tail) and killer whales/ocras several times during our trip. We felt safe all the time and were served soup, coffe and tea afterwards. The temperature was +3oC, and I wore two layers of wool on my lower body and four layers on my upper body. Remember to bring mittens and a hat.

Husky Andoy

With our 22 Alaskan Huskies we operate a Huskyfarm since 2013 and offer a lot of activities for visitors. Primarily our life is focused on our dogs, because we need them to provide our incredible sledding tours in the winter with the sled and in the summer with our cart. Besides that we love to show you our farm where you can also cuddle the dogs. We also provide equipment for outdooractivities like camping or climbing. You can also rent our guesthouse on our homepage. Generally we are focused on our visitors and we try to implement every of their wishes. Also hiking with the dogs in summer is very popular. We would be pleasured if you contact us.

Beautiful farm with adorable great dogs. And what a landscape! Great crew who can really explain everything to you. They go out of their way to take care of the dogs. And the dogs live in small packs in kennels and not on chains. I've seen chaining so often in Norway.

Nord Norsk Klatreskole

The Klatreskole with the adjoint Klatrekafeen and the outdoors store are a must for anyone looking for hiking, skiing or of course climbing in Lofoten. They lent us a crashpad for three days for a tip, gave us great recommendations on where to go and a skiing guide free of charge in exchange for the promise to come back. Nordic charme and incredible food top it off. Very recommendable!
