Fabulous food - for locals as well as residents

Reviewed By Simon C

We live locally and this is our favourite restaurant in Old Hunstanton… so we come back at least monthly. Why? Well the food is fabulous - the menu changes regularly so even those who come back every few weeks (like us) there is always something different to try. The chef(s) is creative - in flavours and in presentation. …but what brings us back is the service. The staff are engaging, interested and really make a great evening special. That is true for the regular staff and those who we meet for the first time each visit. We applaud the management for creating such an ethos. In summary, we love the food at Caley Hall. We cannot comment on the accommodation (as we live nearby) but if it follows the restaurant, we are sure it is great - not least as I am sure the staff will make your stay special. For locals in Old Hunstanton, we are so lucky to have Caley Hall in our locality…

Great first experience with dogs

First time we’d taken our two young dogs away overnight. We have a Labrador and an Irish wolfhound, both under a year old. The staff were great even though the pups were still learning! No pressure, we had a lovely time. Thank you all for a lovely stay!

Lovely location, great views but some areas need improvement

Reviewed By MontyDon2016

We stayed for 4 nights B&B and had a family room (211) which was huge, as was the bathroom with a separate power shower. The super-king bed was comfy and there was plenty of fresh water, tea, coffee and biscuits for us all. Unfortunately there was a constant hum (akin to an extractor fan) that during the night would keep us awake if we didn't have ear plugs. The hotel is an old building and has some lovely period decor but there are some odd choices of furniture and style, seemingly at odds with the old world charm. We had dinner 3 times at the hotel, would have been all nights but they couldn't fit us in on one of them and made no attempt to do so, which I thought was odd. The food was excellent but the service left a lot to be desired. Arriving for dinner, we were not greeted by 'hello, good evening' or anything similar, more often it was ' can I take your room number?' We were never asked if the food was OK or if we were enjoying our stay. It was odd. Chairs were often covered in crumbs. Despite it being sunny, the windows were always shut and all the communal areas were hot and stuffy. I went around opening windows to let fresh air in. It drove me nuts how uncomfortably hot it was, yet the staff were seemingly oblivious. You could sit in the lounge and nobody would offer you a drink. There was no background music. There was no atmosphere full stop! Breakfast was OK. The cooked breakfast was good but they would run out of glasses or juices or something else every day! Even after 4 / 5 days nobody spoke to us, to enquire how our holiday was, was the room OK. Nothing at all. Even when we checked out, nothing. Recommendations to management: -Clean the windows in the communal areas -Make the best of the fabulous location and views -Open windows -Create a welcoming atmosphere -Train your staff in customer service - details are important

Great location with easy access for walking the coast

Reviewed By BrianS046

The two bedroom third floor flat is accessed by quite steep stairs which turn at the top so not good for anyone with mobility problems. Bathroom is a little jaded in finish but other than that we were delighted with the high quality and comfort of the apartment. The house is situated in a very quiet area with plenty of room outside for street parking. It only takes a couple of minutes to walk to the sea front and miles of beautiful and changing beaches await your pleasure. Sainsburys and Tesco close by and numerous delicatessen shops within a few miles along the coast. We are thinking of returning again later this year.
