Extremely disappointing

Reviewed By Jillybean43

We decided to go to the Pen for our last special meal of our holiday. From the beginning from booking, where I had to really persuade the booking person to accept 6 people and a dog. With this in mind we expected it to be very busy but we were the only people there. The young people serving us were extremely helpful but I think embarrassed by the menu. It was a pared down menu which seemed to just consist of grilled meat. No vegetarian option for starter or fish considering it is by the sea. We had the Sunday Roast. Beef was tough and difficult to eat with 3 small roast potatoes and frozen peas and carrots. Glamorgan sausages were tasty but didn’t come with advertised accompaniment. We ordered extra cauliflower but this seemed to hardly be enough for a child. We complained and our server automatically offered 20% off the bill. While we were there a family of 4 came, were seated and then told the chef had to go home so they couldn’t eat. Food continued to be served to other people. Honestly it’s difficult to think I’ve had a worse meal. So disappointed as the Pen had such a good reputation.

Early spring sunshine break

First visit to this great restaurant with rooms on the sea front in Aberdovey. Stayed two nights at the end of their winter dinner, bed & breakfast offer which is excellent value. All our dinner choices were excellent, especially the fish dishes, and breakfast was one of the best ever. Rooms were lovely too (although some heavier curtains or blackout blinds to keep out the light would be a great addition) and the service warm and friendly. Really looking forward to going back.

Visiting friends we went for a Sunday lunch but was disappointed with the meal for the cost of it, and a lack of atmosphere in the restaurant. Won't be returning in a rush. The only good thing about the place was the views.

Wonderful long weekend break in Aberdyfi at the Awel y Mor B&B. The hospitality and attention to detail of the owners Philippa and Colin was second to none. The room we stayed in was superb, you will struggle to find a better breakfast. All Aberdyfi facilities are short walk away as is the train station if you want to go further afield.

Great Sunday lunch 5 June 2022

Reviewed By rh172

I asked how the roast beef was cooked. Answer 'medium rare'. It arrived medium rare. We made a mistake, not declaring a wine allergy. Apologies. When the food arrived - there was indeed wine in the gravy. The staff could not have been more helpful. One plate was taken away and replaced with no fuss with beef this time with 'vegan' gravy. Top marks - and we will be returning. Lovely location and great child friendly back garden.

With on-site indoor children's games rooms that have table tennis, air hockey, pool table, and a soft play area for the little ones. There is also an outdoor play park with a swing and slide, all in a good condition. A very impressive destination.
