New Zealand (/njuːˈziːlənd/ ( listen); Māori: Aotearoa [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses—the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui), and the South Island (Te Waipounamu)—and around 600 smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long period of isolation, New Zealand developed a distinct biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.

Ngaio Marsh House

Reviewed By ladypennz

I visited while attending the Christchurch Writers Festival this weekend gone. The house is as it was when she lived there and is so worth a visit. Seated in the Cashmere Hills it has lovely views. The house itself and its furnishings are lovely, but the spirit of Dame Ngaio Marsh makes it so much more than just a nice house. On the day we visited we had the additional treat of meeting an actress who had been directed by Dame Ngaio Marsh in a production of Hamlet. Also enjoyed the bookcase full of various editions of the novels written by Dame Ngaio Marsh. I thoroughly recommend this place to visit.

We took a group of seniors and played with the 3D images and created fun photos. My grand kids were there a week earlier, and had a great time. So we took people in their 80s and 90s who also had a great time.

It is an eerie feeling seeing steam simply rise out of the ground around Taupo. We drove into this power station not knowing if we were really allowed in there. Very interesting seeing the steam, the endless winding pipes and the surrounding scenery.
