Atupa Taxi & Shuttle

We have called Jay twice and both times he couldn't be more helpful, friendly, or informative. He really took super care of us both days. He gives a great tour of the whole island with lots of insider knowledge and interesting stops, including some great family photos he took and teaching my son how to throw rocks at ripe mangos to knock them down in the time-honored tradition. Very grateful to him - we had a great and authentic time in Raro thanks to him.

Cook Islands Tours

Leave the familiar surrounds of your resort and venture out to the villages to experience true Cook Islands cuisine, hospitality and the real spirit of culture & lifestyle enjoying a three course dinner in three local homes. Be part of our family and get an insight into the day to day lives of locals in Rarotonga. A small string band will follow the touring group.

This was the activity I enjoyed most during our week long stay in Rarotonga. There were about 13 tourists in our group, we were picked up from our accommodation, enjoyed ukalele music & singing on the minibus between stops & were welcomed warmly at each of the 3 homes. At the first stop we were treated to a tour of the hosts' garden, which is planted with a variety of fruits. Each host introduced us to their family & told us a little bit about their home, family & community. The food was delicious & unsurprisingly there was plenty to go around. Our tour guides were also incredibly warm, friendly & shared about their lives. Would highly recommend for anyone who is interested in finding out more about the Rarotongan way of life. Recommend bringing bugspray & an empty stomach.

Rarotonga has one main road that circles the whole island. There are two busses make the trip, with one going clockwise and one counter-clockwise. You should never have to wait more than 30 minutes to catch a bus that will get you almost anywhere on the island. The fare is very reasonable and you can buy a concession for multiple rides for the day. The drivers are friendly and you meet some really nice people on the bus. It is not a luxury coach but it beats walking and may save you from having to rent a car or risk your life riding a tiny scooter around.
