We've been to Treetops (various branches) many times but this place is great, firstly because it's quieter, secondly because the staff don't look as harried as they do at Treetops, thirdly because unlike Treetops there is a cafe on site which is great because as parents you're watching for a long time.
The ziplines however are not as far off the ground as Treetops and for the beginner level, there are only two courses. Probably better suited to younger kids. There are more advanced courses but a parent must go up with them.

Sydney Trail Riding Centre

Reviewed By Aria9093 - Sydney, Australia

I have been to Sydney Trail Riding Centre a few times on the 1 hour experienced rider's ride. I have been riding on and off for 16 years so I am reasonably experienced and have visited many riding schools. STRC is also on the same property as Scenic Hills Riding Ranch but under new ownership and management. If you rode here when it was Scenic Hills and didn't like it, I encourage you to visit again. The new owners have made many structural improvements like rebuilding the old diary, the fencing, new stables, a dressage arena, round yard etc. They have an on site vending machine and the place has a friendly vibe. Bring cash as there is no eftpos.
The thing that sets STRC apart from anywhere else in Sydney is their commitment to safety. Safety wise the place has improved 10 fold over what Scenic Hills was. There are separate rides for beginners and experienced riders. All the guides are friendly and carry first aid kits. They do not pack as many horses as they can on one ride.
Beginners ride -
This is a 1 hour ride suitable for absolute beginners and people who are looking for a horse riding experience rather than those who are looking to learn how to ride. It is strictly walking only. If you're looking to learn to ride, you will have to take lessons as they don't cater for people who want to learn to trot and canter. I am over the top when it comes to safety and would say STRC has the safest beginner's rides in NSW.
Experienced ride -
For riders who have ridden over 100 times and can trot and canter well. This ride is still safety conscious so there is no galloping and it isn't a hooning type of ride. The horses don't get fizzy at the bottom of hills or race each other either, they are rather well behaved and easily controllable. Runs are done both individually and as a group depending on the hill. The horses don't pull, dance around at the bottom of hills, flat gallop up the hill then come to an uncomfortable sudden stop at the top like most of the experienced rider's Scenic Hills horses did. The guides ask you to always walk then trot and then canter instead of just taking off. Because of this the horses don't get "hot" or inadvertently trained to race uncontrollably up the hill. The trail guide was saying they remove any horse that gets hot for re evaluation as a riding school horse. I actually felt there wasn't enough trotting or cantering so would go on the 2 hour ride next time.
My only feedback would be to use more of the property on the experienced rider's rides rather than riding for half an hour and coming back the same way.It is a 500 acre property. Also they could maintain some of the overgrown paddocks which have really good runs in them but it is understandable they don't as STRC and the agistment side isn't as big as Scenic Hills was.
An overall very good experience suitable for the whole family.

The visitors information centre is located on route of the walking track between Richmond and Clarendon opposite the RAAF. People like to bring their children to play in the playground and others like to watch as the RAAF planes land and take off. The people in the centre are well versed in the history and location of the Hawkesbury and so asking question would be the way to go as there is a lot of interesting information and things to do in the area.
