Gweedore (officially known by its Irish language name, Gaoth Dobhair, Irish pronunciation: [ˌɡˠi ˈd̪ˠoːɾʲ]) is an Irish-speaking parish located on the Atlantic coast of County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. Gweedore stretches some 26 kilometres (16 mi) from Meenaclady in the north to Crolly in the south and around 14 kilometres (9 mi) from Dunlewey in the east to Magheraclogher in the west, and is one of Europe's most densely populated rural areas. It is the largest Irish-speaking parish in Ireland with a population of around 4,065, and is also the home of the northwest regional studios of the Irish-language radio service RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, as well as an external campus of NUI Galway. Gweedore includes the villages Bunbeg, Derrybeg, Dunlewey, Crolly and Brinalack, and sits in the shade of Donegal's highest peak, Errigal.

I was working in the area and took a walk down the beach to see Bad Eddie which is the remains of a once proud half deck trawler. Known as half decker for their class of fishing boat. It was abandoned here on the beach years ago and at night it makes a great photographic subject. Sadly only half of the wreck remains after years of abuse by the elements. I wondered how much longer it will remain. This is a lovely beach and it is quite shallow so you will be walking for ages before you get your knees wet. Safe for kids. A beautiful place overshadowed by another wreck the modern looking Ostan Hotel which fell foul of the recession. It has been closed up for a good few years now. It would be nice to see it reopening. The views of Bad Eddie and the sea are astounding from their rooms I am sure.

Very picturesque area. Even when visited in misty weather. Well worth a visit and don't forget Dunlewey Church.

We stopped at the view point and then drive down into.the valley. Great place for photograpgers. I took.many and they are some of The Westminster holiday.

This is great for young kids you can get a family of four in for 20 euro you can then stay as long as you like. You can buy some food to feed the animals as you enter which the kids loved there is a good variety of animals in the petting zoo and all are pretty safe to feed be cautious with the emus. There is also pony rides which are well priced. If the weather changes there is a small coffee shop and indoor play area for the kids. Overall this is a good day out.

Great day out, we did the cottage tour and it was brilliant, so informative and fun (we had Martina as a guide). We also did the boat trip and it was class, great views of the surrounding scenery and again lots of history and local stories. A must visit if you are in the area.
