Topsy Farms

Friendly people. We have bought blankets, wool and lamb products. The lamb is delicious. The blankets are attractive and warm. We have 3 different blankets and have given 3 as gifts, The wool is a good quality with lovely colours. My sister enjoyed making socks with the wool. You can see beautiful stone walls made by expert Stone Wallers. You can see two cows, many sheep and I think some ducks. The guard dogs are very cute. I have been there at sheering time and lambing time. It was very interesting to see these two events. I have bought many products from their "Wool Shed". It is a retail store on the premises. I have bought gloves, little felt birds, hats, scarves and T shirts. Topsy wants to promote living off the land and treating the animals and land with respect.

MacKinnon Brothers Brewing Co.

Bound by brotherhood. Brewed by tradition. MacKinnon Brothers Brewing Co. is located on a bicentennial family farm, just outside of Kingston, Ontario. With over 200 years of farming heritage behind us, we use the hops, wheat, and barley grown right here on our farm to brew beer which is emboldened with the unique character of rural Canada. We do this so beer patrons everywhere can share in the taste and tradition of our farm. Our ancestors settled in Upper Canada in 1784, and through the generations, built a thriving farm. We decided to add another element into the mix: a farm-based brewery. We’ve renovated century-old barns to house the equipment, and planted hops and malting barley in the surrounding fields. The character and history of this place shines through in every glass.

Rode our bikes to the Sunday Market at the Brewery, great vendors set up with fresh produce, Dody's fabulous soda, deliciously tasty popcorn, Pharmacy's wonderful products, awesome food truck from Otter Farms and beautiful cards from Silverplate Press of which I bought 5!! There was music playing, beer to be tasted, a pond to sit by or just visit. A wonderful relaxed afternoon in the country with interesting things to do and taste. So glad we made it there.

Bon Echo Provincial Park

If you live close enough, this park is perfect for even a day trip. Take the water tour of the lake and cliffs (suggest sitting on the port side), rent a canoe for a few hours, relax on the beach or just walk along the wood trails or the cliff top. We went late summer when they also had the artist weekend. Many crafts and arts available from paintings (including paddles and rocks) to concrete decorative tables. Well worth the trip anytime, even if you are not camping.

We discovered this area while in town geocaching. There are several geocaches along the walkway. The walk along the river and the falls is beautiful. We saw some native wildlife including a snake, ducks and birds.

Bergeron Estate Winery

A beautiful family run boutique winery in the heart of Adolphustown, right on the banks of the Bay of Quinte. Our specialty is our red wine, Gamay, paired with our homemade Nona's Pizza. Winery and Pizzeria combined for a brilliant combination.

This is a winery, Cider Producer, Pizza place, Air B and B and you can have your wedding here. When you see it from the road it looks small but boy can they pack in a lot in a small place. Dave the owner is fantastic, good fun and has a great local knowledge after farming here for years and years. He has a good grasp on local history and can tell you about the influx of English refugees from America after the war of independence. He can also advise you on other wineries to visit while in the area which is very good of him as most businesses wouldn't plug their opposition. That is how Dave is, a nice guy. He runs the place with his wife and is also helped by his son and daughter. There is a European touch to the place. His wife is Italian so no surprises there. You are very close to the Ferry here as well where you can take Dave's advice and check out the competition on Prince Edward Island. There is a marquee for weddings beside the winery shop and pizza can be served up as well. Imagine wine, Cider and pizza all in the one place. Their wines are excellent as we can attest to having sampled some. Their whites are our favourites. We would have loved to take some home to Ireland but that would wreck our "duty free allowance". It is nice to sit out and look over the vinyard as you sip wine and have a pizza. We stayed in the " Air B & B which was grand for a couple but we were two couples using the couch bed in the living room. Dave promised it would be bigger the next time we visit. So stop by for some Pizza action.
