Trabzon (Turkish pronunciation: [ˈtɾɑbzon]), historically known as Trebizond (in Ancient Greek: Τραπεζοῦς Trapezous) is a city on the Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey and the capital of Trabzon Province. Trabzon, located on the historical Silk Road, became a melting pot of religions, languages and culture for centuries and a trade gateway to Persia in the southeast and the Caucasus to the northeast. Aya Sofia is currently closed for renovation, as are most sights in Trabzon, such as the museum and Sumela monastery. However it is still worth a visit because you can walk around the outside and take in this amazing sight. The cafe is also a nice place to relax and see the view Hopefully I can return to see the inside in the future.
