It also has its own Community Council. Until local government reorganisation in 1996 Helensburgh was in Dumbarton District and hence also in Strathclyde Region; prior to 1975 it was a small burgh with its own town council within Dunbartonshire. In the Middle Ages it was within the Earldom of Lennox, an area sometimes referred to as The Lennox. It lies on the north shore of the Firth of Clyde and the mouth of the Gareloch is close to the western boundary of the town.

Went to see the sonic the hedgehog movie and had a great time. Great selection of drinks and snacks for the movie. However it is unfortunate that even on a rainy saturday afternoon the cinema was nowhere near full. I would hate to see the place close due to lack of custom. The only gripe I had was that the popcorn containers are too small! Apart from that it's a great place to watch a film and we will definitely be returning in the future!

I’ve just eaten the best fish and chips ever!!! Huge portion and so so tasty. I can’t praise it highly enough. Feather light batter and perfect chips. Given the restrictions - we had to eat outside (as I was drinking alcohol) but this added to the enjoyment. There’s a gazebo with fairy lights and a patio heater and everyone is so friendly. We’ll be back next week!

The Submarine Centre in Helensburgh is the home of the last x craft (miniature submarine) built by the Royal Navy. The centres first exhibition is an award winning presentation, presented on the longest video screen in the UK (50 metres) using an array of 22 laser digital projectors. The centre also uses it immersive technologies to host cultural events to numerous national organisations as well as being one of Scotland most unique venues to host events.
What an amazing exhibition - graphics and film bought the incredible story of this submarine to life - rivalled the titanic exhibition in Belfast - a must go
