Hand screen printed artwork by Jane Fleming, commissioned by Scottish Ministers to mark the 200th anniversary of Sir Walter Scott's 'Waverley' novels and the return of the Waverley Line. Individual posters for each station also hand screen printed by Jane can be viewed at each stop down the line.

The line from Edinburgh to Tweedbank is the newest railway in the UK and shows a great example of the Scottish Government to rebuild closed railways. The reopening was a big success and the line has a regular service to the Scottish capital. The stations are well tended and functional. I was interested to see at Gorebridge that the station is sponsored by people and organisations. A couple of other stations have plants which make them look more welcoming. All the stations were clean and tidy on my visit.

The grounds are beautiful. We had our wedding her in 2019, and couldn't have picked a more beautiful setting in the area. The gardens are so well kept, you can sit for hours just looking at the beautiful fountain or the mini waterfall. The house itself is well worth a look as well. Kind of a cross between museum and art gallery. You can find a lot of information about the people who live and have lived in the area. Plus its a free day out

Borders Railway

Borders Railway: Edinburgh – Tweedbank. From the grandeur of the Scottish capital to the Borders town of Tweedbank, this scenic route takes you through former mining towns, wide open farmland and the lush valleys that the Borders are famous for. The Borders Railway begins at a station named after a novel by Sir Walter Scott, and ends just a stone’s throw from where he wrote it. From Edinburgh Waverley to Tweedbank this new stretch of track opens up the Scottish Borders for the first time since 1969. The train heads south from Edinburgh, passing through old mining villages such as Newtongrange and Gorebridge. From Stow the train pushes on to Galashiels, one of the largest towns in the borders, with a long history of textiles. The final stop is Tweedbank where you can explore the pretty market town of Melrose, or head out to Abbotsford House, Sir Walter Scott’s home, to explore the history of one of Scotland’s most famous writers.
