Come and watch film festival movies all year round! The Vic Theatre is brought to you by the Victoria Film Festival. We are a volunteer run movie theatre in the heart of downtown Victoria. We love movies, and we know you do too. Between Quote-Alongs, Sing-Alongs, independent film, TV Parties and anything else we think is cool, The Vic's lineup is definitely worth checking out.

They showed a premiere film from the Vancouver Film Festival. It's a wonderful small theater where you can buy wine and beer. Their popcorn is also great. They always feature great films and we absolutely love going to see movies there.

Capitol 6 (not “Capital”) is a truly unique cinema experience. Originally opened in 1981 as a Famous Players, this multiplex with its unique geometric exterior and winding ramp has been delighting moviegoers for just over 35 years almost uninterrupted. I say “almost” because this place did close for a period of about three years between 2013 and 2016 when Empire (the owners at the time) sold their movie house assets. When the doors closed in 2013, there was much speculation as to what would happen to this Victoria landmark. Would it be redeveloped and repurposed? Would it maintain its identity as a cinema? Questions such as these tormented and plagued those in Victoria concerned about history, culture, place and space. Indeed, the “Empire” was looking rather sad on the corner of Yates. In mid 2016, word began to spread and swirl that this classic cinema had been purchased by Andrew Golin, vice-president of Regency Theaters. But much more than that: The new owner was undertaking a significant renovation of the space, revamping the interiors, cleaning it up and developing a movie-going experience sure to rival anything in the reputable Cineplex chain. What would this look like and what’s the end result? Victoria moviegoers finally got to see the “new” Capitol 6 when it re-opened its doors in November 2016. The end product of these renovations is, I admit, nothing short of impressive. The new owners brought back the original name (Capitol 6) and maintained the integrity of the building; thus, it’s eye-catching exterior is still the same and the interior ramp-way remains intact. To update the space, new carpeting has been installed throughout; the concession has been updated to include a Coke Freestyle dispenser (featuring over 100 possible drink combos!); the cinema screens have been enlarged; and, perhaps most significant, all auditorium seats have been replaced with VIP recliner seating. Thus, the Capitol 6 has managed to find that tricky balance between maintaining local history while concomitantly moving forward into the future. Score! Besides that, there are a couple of other things I appreciate about this cinema: 1) It is very well maintained and clean; so, clearly, the workers seem to take pride in their space. And, 2) Capitol 6 tends to play movies not likely to be given a fair shake in the larger chain. What I mean by that is Capitol 6 shows these movies for longer periods of time and not just a weekend or a few days, which is typically the case at most Cineplex locations. I, for one, am glad the Capitol 6 has reopened. It offers a fine and fair alternative to other movie houses in town. Plus, the reclining seats are the epitome of comfort! Highly recommended!

They show classic films about once a month on Sunday afternoons. The admission is only $7 and you get to enjoy these films as they were meant to be seen on the big screen. Really comfortable seats and good staff who keep the theatre nice and clean
