Western Australia (abbreviated as WA) is a state occupying the entire western third of Australia. It is bounded by the Indian Ocean to the north and west, the Great Australian Bight and Southern Ocean to the south, the Northern Territory to the north-east and South Australia to the south-east. Western Australia is Australia's largest state, with a total land area of 2,529,875 square kilometres (976,790 sq mi), and the second-largest country subdivision in the world, surpassed only by Russia's Sakha Republic. In June 1893, three Irish prospectors, led by Paddy Hannan, found the richest goldfield in the history of Australia. Shortly after, D L Doolette was granted a lease at Hannans North, making this mine a connection to the earliest days of goldmining in Kalgoorlie. The original shaft was worked until 1991, when it became the tourist mine you see today. Besides the historic mine, visitors will see modern mining equipment, such as the giant Haulpak trucks. There's a BBQ area and a picnic spot. By the way, you can also join in a game of Two Up, the legendary game of the Kalgoorlie goldminers.

I did the 2.5 tour with Goldrush Tours. Booking was easy with great communication. The tour itself was very interesting and informative - it's a great insight into the operations of an open cut mine up close.
