Megalitgh Rock Sanctuary

"THE DOOR OF THE SUN" is the name of the Megalith near Buzovgrad village, Kazanlak municipality. It is known as the Bulgarian Stonehenge and represents an ancient Thracian observatory. There is a window in the rocks 1.80 m high, in which falls the sun at sunset during the Megalith Festival. The view from the rocks at Valley of Roses and Thracian Kings along the Tunja river is exceptional!

Unfortunately completely closed (even the more clandestine routes you might find online) yet still impressive to see. Route to the monument is best coming from the south (good road), yet route from the west is also very doable with a regular car, despite what other reviews say. This route also gets you past a couple of massive concrete & steel torches.

Rozhdestvo Hristovo Temple

The Memorial Temple of the Birth of Christ, nown as Shipka Monastery is a Bulgarian Orthodox church built near the town of Shipka between 1885 and 1902 to Antoniy Tomishko's design in the 17-century Muscovite style. It is, together with the other parts of the Shipka Monument, dedicated to the soldiers that died for the liberation of Bulgaria in the Russo-Turkish War, 1877-78.
