Johnstown Garden Centre

A Short History John and Elsie Clarke founded Johnstown Garden Centre in August 1974, on a greenfield site in the quaint Norman village of Johnstown, Co. Kildare in Ireland. The company expanded rapidly and in 1980, sons Jim and Sean joined the firm and today manage the site jointly. John and Elsie are still involved on a regular basis but taking it a bit easier now after 40 years, both enjoying very good health! The Centre has been the recipient of many prestigious awards and recognition during the years including "Garden Centre of the Year", and a 5 star quality award from Horticulture Ireland, the government agency responsible for Irish Horticulture. In August 1999 as we celebrated 25 years at Johnstown we were hosts to the World Congress of the International Garden Centre Association, with nearly 300 delegates from 16 countries attending. (They had a return visit again in August 2014, our 40th year!) In 2005, due to continuous expansion the Garden Centre moved in its entirety to a new site in Johnstown directly opposite the old centre. A brand new Johnstown Garden Centre was born.! This site is 6 times bigger than the old one and features a very exciting new building with very extensive plant halls with Ireland's largest plant selection and a bright airy shopping environment, a cafe and very extensive car and coach parking. In 2013, the store size was doubled again and an expanded new Cafe with 250 seats was added making it a real destination centre for all the family. We were one of the first companies in Ireland to have a website and now we welcome you to our new full webshop. Our aim has always been to be truly a Gardeners' Garden Centre. The entire garden centre is fully wheelchair accessible, with special parking bays and toilet facilities. Delivery can be arranged for any items purchased. This service is provided by local courier services at cost. We accept Visa and Mastercard, Credit cards in store or online and you can also pay online with Paypal if you wish. Over 400,000 people visited us last year. All items purchased carry a guarantee which varies with the item. Johnstown Garden Centre sponsor the gardening slot on KFM Radio every Thursday morning all year round with Yvonne O' Connor. Open Monday to Fridays 9am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 6 pm. Sunday and Bank Holidays 11am to 6 pm.
