We came to the chateau without an appointment, but we were welcomed in the perfect way. Very friendly people, who immediately gave us a tablet and brochure with all the information we needed to do a tour in and around the chateau. In this tour, you can learn all about the chateau, the family and the process of winemaking. A beautiful place with a great history. After the tour, we were invited to do a lovely winetasting. Great wines and very reasonable prices. We will come back!

Chateau de Bridoire

Reviewed By richarde616 - London, United Kingdom

A really lovely family day out. The chateau was recently rescued from extreme dilapidation by the Guyot family, who have created a fascinating and entertaining attraction over the last 6/7 years. The building has been lovingly restored and filled with a whole variety of room re-creations. Of particular joy is the informal nature of the chateau. You are free to wander pretty much everywhere and in several rooms old-fashioned games are laid out for the children (and adults!) to enjoy. You can also try on some armour and chain mail. But that’s not all, the grounds are also filled with medieval type games to pass the time. Chuck in some horses, an ice cream and a cave to explore, we loved it :-)

Chateau de Monbazillac

The Chateau of Monbazillac dates from around 1550 and has been the property of Monbazillac Cooperative Winery since 1960. Its architecture is a mix of balance and dissymmetry shaped by the demands of medieval defensive style and the beginning of Renaissance. This protestant stronghold has been a listed Historic Monument since 1941. The Chateau is furnished and open for self-guided tours. After the tour a wine tasting is offered to each visitor. Closed in january. The last acces to the château: 1h30 before we close.

The Chateau Monbazillac combines both a tasting of the local Monbazillac wines and a tour of the chateau, which was built in the 1500s by a family who joined the Protestants during the wars of religion. The wines are wonderful (especially the 2011 Chateau Monbazillac sweet wine, which tastes like sherry and is really delicious) and the chateau contains period furniture and crafts from the 1600s as well as more modern materials related to artists and characturists and actors from the late 19th century and early 20th century. The furniture is beautiful and the artwork is genuine, and it's worth a visit even if you don't buy the wine you can sample for free.
