The 6 Best Bus Tours in Donegal Town, County Donegal

August 12, 2021 Yuk Petri

Donegal Town is a fairytale of a place, featuring a charming harbor, serene beaches and stoic stone remains of centuries past, like those of 15th-century Donegal Abbey. Stern-looking Donegal Castle, recently restored to its one-time Gaelic glory, is the crown jewel of the area. If you’re looking for souvenirs, snag a hand-woven tweed or carpet, the signature goods of the area. For a good craic, the pubs of The Diamond area are a sure bet.

Visitors that come to Ireland but that don’t experience the Northern Headlands and the Wild Atlantic Way guided by the inside knowledge of locals have largely missed out on the real jewel. It is with this in mind that inspired Chieftain tours to create day tour options for visitors who want a mere taste of all that is to offer on the North West coast. Embark and explore those secrets on the road less travelled by Private Luxury Car or Minibus chauffeured by a knowledgeable and experienced driver guide. I would highly recommend this tour company! We did the 3 day with Brian as our tour guide and it was honestly the best way to see the northern half of Ireland. Brian had a lot of information about everything and kept us all entertained with his bad jokes and the odd song. It is well worth the money because it's without doubt the best and most economical way to see Ireland as there is no time wasted navigating, vast local knowledge, no important sights missed and most importantly of all at the end of the day it was straight to the accommodation without getting lost! At night Brian always seemed to know where the best place would be locally to hear some Irish Music and boy did we hear some top class stuff. I would highly recommend this to couples or small groups looking for a fun, relaxed tour with the option of changing the itinerary at a moment’s notice, thanks to the “few to many in Leo’s Tavern where we met Moya Brennan lead singer of Clanad!!! We were planning a return visit in autumn 2020 but due to the current pandemic we now hope to go in spring 2021 as Brian has agreed to put together an alternative 7 day tour covering the same route but with different sights, we really can’t wait. Thank you Brian for such a wonderful trip and for the lifelong memories we have created.

My husband I did the Southwest Ireland tour with Jerome. What a great tour, Jerome was fantastic from start to finish, nothing was a problem. The actual tour was fantastic and I am sure we would not have seen everything we did if we drove ourselves. We learnt so much from Jerome, he was a wealth of knowledge without going overboard. Our group was mainly American and Canadian, we were the only Australians, everyone was very friendly and got on well. We were extremely lucky with the weather and the scenery was beautiful. The only thing I would change is, we stayed in the bed and breakfast options, I would stay in the hotel option next time.

Sadly, in these uncertain days of Coronavirus, I had to cancel my upcoming tour. The team at Overland Ireland were compassionate and understanding in working out the details so as to minimize losses all around. Flexible reschedule options into next year were offered as well. This is the kind of small company to support.
