Lake Kashiba

Reviewed By mick324156

My friends and I came to hear of Lake Kashiba sometime in 1963. As we were keen on spear fishing, we decided to investigate. One weekend in 1964 Moe, Joe, and I [Mike], loaded our gear into my car and set course for the Lake. We were told that it was just past St. Anthony's Mission. We arrived fairly early on a Saturday morning, but had to park some way short of the lake as a stream with a narrow walking bridge had to be negotiated. 54 years ago there were no signs to say you had arrived. All we saw was bush, and more bush. However very soon some local young lads from the mission arrived. and showed us the way. I will never forget that first look at spirit lake. and remember the folk tale of the demise of the goat people who lived in that area many years ago. Our young friends assured us that there were fish in the lake, so we kitted up and went in. We shot a few small bream and a barbel, but never found any large fish. [ See photo[ Maybe one or two of the lads in the photo could be identified.I have a D.V.D. of a weekend at the lake with underwater film of spear fishing.I will be happy to send this clip to you [although i am sure spear fishing is now banned] if it will help to promote the lake and area. all best wishes, Mike.
