Not at all amazing or wonderful

The hotel itself is very nice, the gardens exceptionally so. The room (we chose The Level Ocean View) was also nice with views as expected from all the pics on the web. The restaurants themselves were all nicely set out too, the staff were nice, and the beach was extremely nice.....and that's as far as it goes, nice, because the thing that lets this hotel down is the food, which was not nice at all. Simply put, when you go to an up market hotel, you expect well prepared food, and we did not get any. Think lovely inspired menus, and not having trained chefs to deliver them..... First impressions tend to linger. We arrived at the hotel at breakfast time after a long journey. Entering the small air conditioned room where they have all the breakfast food laid out, there were dozens of flies crawling all over the meats, pastries and fruits. The ever so nice staff who insisted on opening the door for you were oblivious to the fact that the food was covered in insects - Yuk!! The food was not covered, and those blue electric lights that zap flies in the butchers at home? Nope. Glass covers over the food? Nope. Staff waving the flies away? Nope. Ordering an omelette, it was presented as uncooked slop. Bacon served almost raw. The fact that their eggs have white yolks is not their fault, but when the eggs are served snotty, yuk. Leaving the air conditioned room, our breakfast table needed the burning coffee granules to deter the flies, but of course they don't work. Then the cold coffee and horrendous tasting juices just added to the misery. Great start. It became worse, as we discovered the beach bar was infested with flies. They just arrive for their lunch when your meal is delivered to the table, and it was a very unpleasant experience. We caught the last week of the raining season, and whilst it did not rain at all, and was constantly sunny, it was very humid and apparently, that's why the place is plagued by flies at this time of year. The climate and the flies are not the hotel's fault, but the lack of attention to hygiene and poor food most certainly is. We did not get Delhi Belly, thankfully, but we did get the distinct impression that we would never return to this hotel. Fortunately, we only stayed for 3 nights before going to Botswana on safari. Unfortunately, we wanted to leave the day we arrived.

Great hotel, our room was ready within an hour of arrival. Quite a steep walk to get to some of the rooms. Rooms are nice and clean, but space for putting your cloths away is a bit limited. In evening the mosquito curtains are closed around the bed, a nice touch ! All the staff are very friendly and the always do their best to help. Food is good for all-in, enough variety, quite a lot is spicy and curry based, which i found very tasty. My only complaint is the desserts are a bit basic sometimes. Bar is also good with plenty of cocktails etc. Entertainment is ok, no noisy music during the day due to activities etc , pole pole is the key word here. Beach vendors can be a bit of a pain sometimes, especially if you just want to have a nice walk along the beach. All in all great hotel to relax and getaway from it all. Perfect !!!

Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa - Zanzibar

Situated on Zanzibar’s picturesque North East coast overlooking the turquoise Indian Ocean, it is as the name suggests, a little piece of paradise. From your arrival at Zanzibar Airport, the resort is a meandering 45-minute journey through un-spoilt scenery, passing typical African villages where the way of life has changed little for hundreds of years. At Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa, you will be greeted by a blaze of colors as you sweep down the imposing driveway passing through the entrance gate. You will be captivated as you arrive in the reception to discover a view over the resort and the azure blue sea. Mature coconut palms swinging in the breeze, white sandy beach, beautiful landscaped gardens, traditional style round chalets with pitched makuti roof, a stunning waterfall feature and one of the largest swimming pools in Zanzibar are just some of the sights that await you. A big smile and the greeting of “Jambo” will be the first words you hear, as you begin to feel the warmth that the people of Zanzibar are famed for.

Too terrible!!!

Booked here because it said it had AC which didn’t work and nobody was interested in helping. The local people in Zanzibar are so lovely except for here where the staff are rude and miserable. There are far better places to stay in the area with much better value for money. Stay clear if this awful place!
