Fortrose (Scottish Gaelic: A' Chananaich, Scots: Chainry) is a town and former burgh in the Scottish Highlands. It is on the Moray Firth, about 6 miles (9.7 km) north-east of Inverness. The town is known for its ruined 13th century cathedral, and as the home of the Brahan Seer. In the Middle Ages it was the seat of the bishopric of Ross. The Cathedral was largely demolished in the mid-seventeenth century by Oliver Cromwell to provide building materials for a citadel at Inverness. The vaulted south aisle, with bell-tower, and a detached chapter house (used as the tollbooth of Fortrose after the Reformation) remain. These fragments, though modest in scale, display considerable architectural refinement, and are in the care of Historic Scotland (no entrance charge). The burgh is a popular location for trying to spot bottlenose dolphins (see Chanonry Point) in the Moray Firth.

The Tavern is a fantastic pub for locals and for tourists. With a log burner and good craic to keep you warm and happy during your visit, you really won’t be disappointed. There’s a good range of beers on tap, as well as a good range of whiskys to try. Bar staff are friendly, efficient and always willing to chat. I’ve visited with family, with friends and on my own with a book. I’ve been at busy times and quiet times and feel equally welcomed regardless. Quality pub. Point to note - under 18s are not permitted.

A lovely place... a sand and pebble beach where you can walk along to Rosemarkie and e if you are lucky you can spot Dolphins (all year round?) and seals as well as multiple sea birds while looking over to Fort George. Also overlooked by a lighthouse. Busy at times with small carpark which gets very busy. A lovely place to spend a bit if time... dog friendly.

Excellent, well kept Links Course in a Fab location. Blowing a Hooly, dolphins in the bay. Pro shop Mike very helpful & ladies in club house so lovely and friendly warm welcome to us visitors. Bacon roll & pot of tea waiting. We had a brilliant time. Thank you all so very much.
