Kuttralam or Kuttalam, Spa of South India, is a panchayat town situated at a mean elevation of 160 m (520 ft) on the Western Ghats in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu, India. Many seasonal and few perennial rivers such as the Chittar River, the Manimuthar River, the Pachaiyar River and the Thamirabarani River originate in this region. The numerous waterfalls and cascades along with the ubiquitous health resorts in the area have earned it the title the Spa of South India. The falls carry a good amount of water only when there is a rain on the hills. The season begins from June of every year till September. The South West Monsoon brings in the cold breeze with mild temperature. From October to December North East Monsoon sets over in Tamil Nadu and the climate is cold and the rains are very heavy sometimes. Chitra sabhai - one of the Pancha Sabhas of Lord Shiva. The Chitra Sabhai is located near the parking area of main falls. It is around 500m from the main temple. The Chitra Sabhai is a hall of pictures and displays a beautiful painting of Lord Natraja. The interiors of the temple is decked with beautiful murals, depicting images from the Indian epics and history. The place is mesmerizing. They charge an entrance ticket of Rs.10 per person, camera and mobiles are not allowed.

The Old falls is around 8km from the Main falls Courtallam . The way to the falls is very beautiful with forested mountains and green blossoming rice fields to the right and coconut trees, Mango trees to the left. Two separate children pool is in front of the water falls so the falls is favourite far children.

We visited the Main Falls Courtallam a few days ago and it was an exhilarating experience.The falls are said to contain medicinal properties as the water cascades from hills full of thick jungles and ayurvedic plants. The water was copious and was thundering down in 3 main streams.The water was cold but was highly refreshing and rejuvenating.It's definitely worth a visit.

Went to the falls with my friend. It was around 8pm in the night. The falls has a seperate queue and bathing place allocated for both male and female. And the place has a good parking place also. They have improved the pathway leading up to the falls. And the place had been maintained very well and looks clean. The water falling from the five layers is the reason behind the five falls name. The placed is also secured with police men around to control the crowd or any misbehaving.
