Built in the beginning of the 17th century when Japan's unique castle architectural techniques had reached their peak, Himeji Castle was the first in Japan to be registered as a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage in 1993 as well as designated as a National Treasure in 1951. It is called "Hakuro-jo" (White Heron Castle) because of its brilliant white exterior and supposed resemblance to a white heron taking flight. Q1. Can I use a credit card? A1. Yes, you can. Japanese garden 'Koko-en' was constructed in1992 at the exact site of Nishi-Oyashiki(Lord's West Residence) with Himeji Castle, one of the world cultural heritages, as a background. The area of this garden is about 3.5 ha and it is composed of 9 difficult garsens,built on the archaeologically excavated site of samurai houses and roads. Using the gardening techniques in the Edo period(ca.1600-1860) as a good model, 'Koko-en' creates historical atmosphere with the magnificent view of Himeji Castle. We hope you will have agood stroll and feel history in 'Koko-en' with Himeji Castle.

I loved this garden (and we've seen quite a few so far in Japan). It's varied, it has so many beautiful spots with stone bridges, wooden houses and a wooden covered bridge, stepping stones in the water, lots of beautiful kois (some shockingly huge), flowers, trees with beautiful shapes,.. It's a must visit with the castle (there's a combined ticket). Allocate 45 minutes since we couldn't finish it in 30. There's a refreshing spray water tunnel at the entrance that's really appreciated in August. Beautiful!

Kinosaki Onsen is a traditional Japanese hot spring town located 2.5 hours from Kyoto and Osaka by JR express train. The town boasts 7 public hot springs and over 80 ryokans (traditional inns). Guests staying a ryokan get a free pass to the onsens. They can experience wearing traditional yuakta and strolling around this quaint town.

I visited this venue after seeing it on NHK I can say it definitely feels like it’s gone back in time. It has at least seven onsens If you stay in the hotels in the area you get a pass which can visit all 7 for free. The shops offer different things for sale but they can be quite expensive as they are handmade items. The restaurant is closed at two different times once it will close around 5 pm and the other set opens around 8 pm and closes at 11 They seem to be old time activities to do like shooting corks out of a gun to get prizes It is Worth coming here especially during night time as it is beautiful and if your hotel allows it as mine wanted, you can wear the traditional Japanese garments to walk around the streets in The train station is called Kinosaki And if you have the JR pass the trip is mostly going to be free for you via train

This is a great little excursion if you have a few hours and want to get outdoors. Ride up- walk down. Browse the first shop, wander through the gardens, stop for tea and a pork cutlet sandwich at the glass house, then take a short jaunt in a little forest and past a waterfall. The waterfall is less incredible than the view from the basin so look up and around. Emerge behind Shin-Kobe station and grab a snack from the 7-11.

Taking a stroll along the harborland while enjoying the sea breeze with your friends is really wonderfull. You can also ride the ferris wheel or go to the port tower to have a view of Kobe city and the surrounding from above.(Note: if you are with children, there is Anpanman museum nearby which really suitable for children) If you are hungry or want to have a bite, there are many cafe and restaurant in Mosaic. All in all, you have to visit harborland when in Kobe. (You can reach harborland by JR Line from Kobe Sannomiya station and get off on Kobe station)
