Abbotsbury Swannery

Reviewed By Lilacwheaty - Nottingham, United Kingdom

We arrived 30 minutes before the 12 noon feed time (they feed at 12.00 and 16,00) which was lucky, as gave us enough time for a quick read of intro info and a 400m walk down to the feeding area. Hundreds of Mute swans were ready for their first feed and they co-operate well, whilst keeping all the migrating Canada geese at bay. The Swanherd team appeared to love their jobs and giving us all information about the life of swan and the sites 500 year plus history. In Mya and June the cygnets appear, adding to the delight of a visit. There is lots of information and kids activities also, so plenty to do in-between feeding times Combining the tickets with other Abbotsbury estate attractions and the village itself makes for good value also, and a full day out

All this holiday in Weymouth I have walked round this wetland. I think it’s fantastic our dog likes her walks there too. The bird spotting and wild life there are just great. It is well maintained and clean. There are benches to sit on. Sheltered spots to watch the birds from. Got to worth a visit if you are in the area.

A complete JOY! From the moment we were greeted by the lovely lady who checked us in (we were late due to traffic) to the moment we actually came back for a cream tea a Monets - it was a pleasure beyond all I'll be honest - when you turn in off the industrial road to the place you may think...Hmm".. DO NOT WORRY!! These are the most exquistite gardens SO peaceful, Immaculate and a pleasure. Our greeter was a joy to talk to... and her smile deserved the first credit. The gardens go on...and on ...and on... Sit with a drink and your favourite cookie... look at the amazing lillies, the soft borders, the damselflies and dragon flies... the ducks dipping and BATHE in its tranquility. This is a Dorset HIDDEN Gem ... so I shouldnt be telling you... But YOU MUST Visit! And for reference - we left happy, went off for a drive to the beach... were disappointed by some of the cream tea options around (including one place who ignored us) so we came back .... The young staff at Cafe' Monet were a pleasure. My wife likesdecaff coffee. - they swopped the coffee in on the cream team - My coffee was perfect. We had a view of the lake and the pleasure of service by such exemplary staff. Warm scones, good coffee, smiles and perfect staff!!!!!!!!!!! What more can we say! (well done!!) Thank you.. for a lovely day and smiles all round - WE WILL BE back with friends!

Martleaves Farm Camp Site

Our Campsite with the most fabulous views, is on the world famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage site in Dorset, a designated Nature Reserve. We're open all year with hard standing pitches and electricity. It's possible to check availability, book and pay online on our website. We have a footpath leading down to the sea which is just 300 metres from the farm where dogs can be let off their leads. On the farm we have alpacas, sheep, horses and Shetland ponies. We have three centrally heated shower and toilet blocks, a luxury wet room and a separate gent’s toilet and mixed toilet on the yard. We've recently been awarded the coveted Platinum Loo of the Year Award! Large vehicles should arrive and leave via Langton Avenue and Marlborough Avenue (not Gallway Road or Parkmead Road which are far too narrow). Please use the South Road entrance and call at the Farmhouse to register and collect your payment tag. Campers causing excessive noise after 11 pm will be asked to leave the site.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights last week. Great campsite, friendly team managing the site, dog friendly, great toilet/shower blocks that were kept very clean. Easy access to walking/cycle path to Weymouth.
