The museum, totally rebuilt, is gorgeous - with a part devoted to the history of the Rromani people (who originates mainly from this city - forced emigration in 1019). It was the city of emperor Harsha, unfortunately underrated today. Harsha was a ruler, a playwright, a philosopher, and he was the first ruler to organize meetings of dialogue between religions. Visit the Gauri Shankar temple and the nearby Tila (a tumulus covering the ruines of the city built by teh ancestors of the Rroma. Also three Kali's temples are worth visiting. Get in touch with perfumers to visit the traditional factories (a production dating back before Christ !). The bazaar with narrow streets is also very attractive. Excellent craftspersons. Hotel Asha (on the main road - 3 miles from the center) is quite fine and surrounding villages are great !

Excellent museum at the city of mathura, excellent collection of artifacts and that showcase the history of ancient india. One good place to visit if you are going to mathura.
