Mongolia /mɒŋˈɡoʊliə/ ( listen) (Monggol Ulus in Mongolian; Монгол Улс in Mongolian Cyrillic) is a landlocked unitary sovereign state in East Asia. Its area is roughly equivalent with the historical territory of Outer Mongolia, and that term is sometimes used to refer to the current state. It is sandwiched between China to the south and Russia to the north. Mongolia does not share a border with Kazakhstan, although only 37 kilometres (23 mi) separates them.

Tovkhon Monastery

A beautiful monastery in a beautiful location. This monastery, founded in 1648 by a 14 year old Zanabazar, who brought Tibetan Buddhism to Mongolia, is set in the forested hills some 40km from the ancient city of Karakoram (near modern Kharkhorin). There is a road that will take you about halfway there, then you need to access the site by horse (recommended) or foot. There is no information at the site, so read up about it first. The topmost areas (moderately easy to access but unlikely to be disabled friendly) are limited to men only. Photos of the exterior only as it is still an active religious site. Probably the earliest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia.

Amazing temple and good please to walk around and wonder. There are few bits where you have to pay ticket like the big budah and musseum. Most of the other places are free and just amazing. If you are lucky enough you can see the monks praying. Be respectful and don’t take photos inside temples
