November 7, 2021 Augustus Redeker

British Columbia's Sunshine Coast does seem to get more than its fair share of great weather, plus breathtaking scenery and friendly coastal villages to discover. The beaches are best in summer, but the natural beauty is year-round. Travelers rave about swimming while gazing up at the mountains, or just relaxing in a romantic B&B while the setting sun paints a canvas of color over the water.

We used Jesse’s Sunshine Coast Trail shuttle to take us from Powell River to Lund. The service was excellent. The driver arrived promptly with a spacious vehicle and he provided us with helpful updates about the trail. I highly recommend using this service if you require a shuttle .

Cliff Gilker Park

This park was fabulous. Ample parking at the trailhead, next to the Sunshine Coast Golf Course. After turning off the highway, you will drive up the gravel roadway to parking. There's a public bathroom available. There are 4 main trails, plus a couple other ones. Each are WELL-MARKED by color. They all loop back/intersect with each other at some point so you really can't get lost. We did them all in just over 2 hours (incl lots of photo stops). Overall, the trails are moderate with some hills but wide pathways, cleared, as I said, well-maintained. My favorite was the lower part of the "red" trail. Lots of wooden bridges and waterfalls. Combined with the evergreen trees, it was truly very scenic. There are benches placed at various points throughout. There is a short pathway ("yellow" trail) that is marked suitable for wheelchairs, walkers, disabled access to be able to enjoy some of this gorgeous nature views.

This hike is fairly easy (running shoes OK). One area has a slight steep elevation gain but otherwise it's generally a peaceful walk through the forest to enjoy a beautiful view from the bluffs. The hike to the bluffs takes about half an hour from the highway. To hike the whole loop, allow for at least 2 hours.
