Fairlands Valley Park

We visited the park on a Saturday and Sunday for the first time whilst visiting Stevenage. What a wonderful park for families, joggers, dog-walkers and just relaxing. A real mix of open space, tree-lined walks and boating lakes. We were really impressed at how well maintained the whole park was and the real absence of litter and dog mess. Possibly the amount of bins available and the fact that they were regularly emptied helped. But it was also evident that the local park users were proud of the place and treated it with respect.

High street pub and live music venue. A well known live music venue in the middle of Stevenage old town. Real ales, craft beers and a great selection of premium spirits. Jukebox, pool table and car park. No food served.

Came to visit a friend for his 40th as he's just moved to Stevenage. We're all rock and metal fans and someone had the forethought to Google where to go. Nothing about the name of the venue gives away what it is. I contacted the bar via Facebook to double check that a) it is a Rock pub of sorts (it is... Oh yes it really is) and b) did they have a band on that night (El Bronson... Highly entertaining) We arrived good and early having had a few warm up drinks. Good crowd, beer garden to the rear completely full with a good mix of all kinds of people of all ages but a rock crowd for sure. Heavy metal on the jukebox, rearranged the furniture inside to accommodate a growing group of people. Carried on drinking. The birthday boy peaked a little early at which point the management politely said that they'd rather not serve him any more alcohol and could we please get some food and water in him and sober him up. Very professional and I would say a good call, we had to source food from nearby I don't think they do food. Band got the place rocking, crowd was quite lively. One of my mates was told off for being a bit too "lively" it's a mosh pit but the pub has it's limits. Again appreciate the professionalism. We're not actually at a festival after all. Had a chat with a few of the security during the night, they were very friendly and relaxed apparently there is very rarely any trouble and I can see why. They allow you to have fun without allowing things to go too far. I flew from Indonesia for a night out in Stevenage and I would do it again. They have monthly events where they give the death and grind bands some support. So here is a call to all the local metal heads... Support your local scene and visit the Red Lion in Stevenage. ????????

I enjoyed my visit to Stevenage museum and I learnt information about the past that was very interesting and helpful to me in my career as a historical writer. I saw how people used to live their lives, wash their clothes, work and cook amongst many other things.
