Great B&B with lovely food and friendly hosts

I visited with my brother after day 1 of walking the Herriot Way and enjoyed a very comfortable stay (including a soak in the bath!). We ate really excellent food (dinner and breakfast). I would thoroughly recommend the Butt House for the above, the views and most of all the welcome! Thanks Jackie and Chris.

Great C2C stop

We stayed here as part of our Coast to Coast walk. Arrived a bit damp from a bit of a tussle with a marsh, fear not. The best drying room I've seen awaited my damp boots. Great freshly brewed coffee and excellent beer. The place was completely full of walkers but the staff are excellent at their job and the food was fabulous and service top notch. Loved it

Birkdale Farm

Warm welcome, fantastic atmosphere

Reviewed By Aila P

We spent one night here whilst walking The Pennine Way. As it is, literally, in the middle of nowhere, we had to be picked up by our host, Gordon, who came to pick us up. The jovial atmosphere started immediately! This is a one bedroomed, self contained flat on the first floor of a renovated barn. After lighting the wood burner, we enjoyed a prebooked dinner which turned out to be chilli con carne - left in the fridge, together with a dessert and all items required for a cooked breakfast the next morning. It was delightful to rest after hard days walking. The next day, we were woken by the curlews in the fields. Whilst there is a no smoking policy in the flat, Gordon and Barbara do not lik any smoking at all to take place on their property. Our excellent hosts made us feel so welcome but take note, this is definitely a unique place, self catering, in the middle of nowhere - wonderful!

The lodge is an approx. 300 year old stone cottage loving renovated to an excellent standard by owners Karen and Neil (who managed the entire project). Our welcome, after a long day of boggy hiking, was warm and friendly with tea, cake and other brews. The food was excellent, all cooked by Karen. Dinner and breakfast were served around the table and we had a wonderful time discussing everything from art history to the sciences with our fellow guests. So much happiness and laughter. Karen and Neil have created a very special place.
