Pays de la Loire (French pronunciation: [pe.i də la lwaʁ]; Breton: Broioù al Liger, meaning Loire Country) is one of the 18 regions of France. It is one of the regions created in the 1950s to serve as a zone of influence for its capital, Nantes, one of a handful so-called "balancing metropolises" (métropoles d'équilibre)¹.

We visited here with our children and dogs. Some wine tasting venues would not allow us in with the dogs so we were pleased to hear they could come along. What a beautiful place. The host welcomed us along with another french speaking group and gave us all history of the chateau and how their wine was produced in the past in both English and French. We were allowed to see in one of their cellars, built into the rock face. After that we went to taste their award winning wines. The host described their individual properties & they were all lovely but the rose was amazing. We purchased a bottle of each. This visit was free & the host was a real gentleman. You do not however get to see the vineyard or the wine making process.

What a place! Can’t recommend this enough! There are a variety of tours to choose from - we chose the 3 Eur per person self tour around the vineyards (perfect if you have arrived on bike!) which also includes 3 wines to taste (of your choice) upon return to base. There are reds, whites, a sparkling white and a Rosé to choose from. The outside seating area offers lovely views. Nathalie, our host, was so informative and her English is faultless! The nicest person we’ve met on our travels to date! She even dropped our wine purchases back to our Airbnb in Saumur (to save us lugging them back by bike!) Service like this deserves a mention ???? We hope to return one day...
