Mount Broke Wines & Restaurant

Established in 1997 Mount Broke Wines has defined Shiraz quality in the Broke Fordwich/Hunter Valley Region across the last decade. Our low yielding single origin vineyard operates with a focus on producing small batches of premium wines. The range also includes fine examples of Semillon, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Barbera. Take in the beautiful outlook of the Brokenback Range whilst enjoying one of our delicious menu options for lunch. Relax in the friendly atmosphere of cool music with a drink from our European beer list, a Gin and Tonic or a Vodka. Mount Broke Wines also provides the perfect venue for weddings and functions.

Everything about this restaurant was perfection. On a beautiful sunny day in the Hunter Valley, why would you sit inside? We hadn't been there before, it was so delightful we are already planning our next visit. Very rustic, tables set up on a green lawn. Food and wine were outstanding, the service was friendly and perfect. It was a hidden gem! I can highly recommend this restaurant.

Glass of Rose and a glass of pale ale, hard to top. Excellent service, wonderful view and excellent value for money.

Great little place. Our host was an Italian/Scottish Aussie who appears to be part of the structure of the place; loves his whisky and is full of great advice. The sort of bar you see in movies but rarely exists in real life.

Celebrating the smaller wineries with no cellar door. James was a fabulous host, a great story teller and quick witted. more importantly, he was a good advocate for the wineries that the coop support. Our favourite was the rum port by furlongs wines. reminded us alot of a mellowed out, less sweet version of Dark Matter rum (think orange/cloves/ cinnamon/rum). Highly recommend.

The Cordial Bar

Open from 3pm daily, below street-level in the Mill’s old machine-room is The Cordial Bar. A wine bar named in honour of our founder’s 1800’s enterprises in viticulture, aerated waters and cordials, this is also a favoured place for locals to end their day. A share-plate menu complements the stunning range of wines and craft beers from the Great Southern region.

The illuminated glass tasting bar showcases the colour & clarity of our classic aged wines 2005-2012 Shiraz, Semillon, Verdelho, Rose & Sparkling Rose. Sit back, relax & enjoy fine wine with specatular views of Yellow Rock, the vineyard & horse stables beyond

One of the Hunter Valley’s best kept secrets, Running Horse Wines, run by the unassuming Dave Fromberg, is a must for any serious wine taster. Tucked away from the corporate end of town, you need to keep your eyes peeled or you might miss it, although the jump out barriers in the front paddock help. Dave is as generous with his time as he is with his knowledge of wines and creates a relaxed and friendly environment, in his cleverly designed tasting area, regardless of who walks through the door. He has a sensational range of reds - my favourite being the 2011 - and his amazing life experiences will keep you enthralled as you work you way through the collection. We will be back!
