Galboda Falls

Galboda is an isolated village located in between Nawalapitiya and Watawala, in the Colombo-Badulla, the upcountry railway. Since there is not a well-developed road system yet, the railway is the only source of transportation for the villages and travelers.

About a 5 hour train ride from Colombo to Galaboda station. From the station there's a very easy hike for about 1 hour to the falls. You can spend as much time as possible there, can even bath. Water is so cold ;) I woundn't say bathing is entirely safe for all ages since there are some pits under water :) You can finish everything within about 5 hours and come to station and catch the train around 4pm. It's a brilliant place for a oneday trip. Not only the water fall, path towards it is filled with beautiful scenaries. Highly recommend ;)

Laxapana Falls

Reviewed By malwana - Colombo, Sri Lanka

Its 4 hrs (134km) away from Colombo via Awissawella Kithulgala rd. We did not take the Sripada turn near 43rd km post, as condition of that road is not supposed to be good. We took the Sripada rurn after arround 5km from Ginigathhena. We went there in February which is dry month so there was no leaches. Waterfall may not at its fullest due to dry season but safe. There are two directions to the waterfall, one to the top of the fall and other one to the bottom of the fall. We didn't go to top of the fall as we had kids and though its not safe. We went to the bottom of the fall. For that we had to climbdown arround 1.5km. There are cement steps up to the bottom. But climbing up was bit tiring. (Altogether I did bit more than 4600 foot steps both the ways down and up) Before climbing down better get the information about water level from the shop owners nearby as if dam opens water level can be riseup & become dangerous. We actually left Colombo in the morning arround 5.30 am and reached there arround 9.30 -10 am for the breackfast. We had a morning picnic there. Attraction time depends on how fast people can climb down and up and how much time they want to spend there.

Rathna Ella waterfall

Reviewed By chathuandishanka - Kalutara, Sri Lanka

Amazing waterfall in hasalaka. Very close to hasalaka town. Trek starts from Rathna ella village. You have to come in Wasgamuwa road and turn to eldamporuwa road. Not hard to find as there are sign boards all the way through. There are parking areas and from there you have to trek for about 4kms along a water canal. Pathway is beautiful which goes through paddy fields, jungle and village houses. There are some tricky areas you have to be bit careful of slippery rocks. Once you reach the bottom of waterfall you’ll realize all the effort you have put is really worthwhile. Don’t try to bath at the very bottom of the waterfall as many lives have been lost there. There are bathing spots on the way. Don’t bring any garbage and pollute the area.

Aberdeen Falls

Reviewed By sajithmj - Warakapola, Sri Lanka

This great waterfall is definitely worth seeing. It is a long way down to the bottom and a most difficult one back to the top. You must be in a fit condition to do it. If you are a visitor. A small observation platform is constructed close the natural pool below the Aberdeen Falls, which is picturesquely framed by rock surfaces. Despite this visitors’ terrace, travellers are rarely seen at Aberdeen Falls. It’s still an off-the-beaten-path destination.

This is also called Kataboola falls. The fall and the arch bridge make this one of the most scenic waterfalls in the country. This fall consists of two main cascades. The bottom of both cascades can be reached by foot. Also there are signs posted warning of deep pools of water and better to be cautious.

This is located between Belihuloya and Haputhale. Need to take a detour from main road in a narrow road and if you wish to go closer to the fall need to walk too....
