Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera helped to define Mexican modernism while engaged in a tumultuous romance. On this 3-hour Frida Kahlo Tour we’ll get a glimpse into the life of Mexican artists. Our visit will take us to the Frida Kahlo Museum, or Casa Azul, her former abode and where many of her self-portraits were created. We will get a sense of how she once lived and worked. We’ll engage directly with her history as we surround ourselves by her artwork, her clothing, her photos, and even the prosthetics, and corsets she wore as a result of childhood polio and a horrifying train accident in 1925. We’ll then shift our conversation to focus more on Diego as we jump in a taxi to reach our final stop: the Museo Estudio Diego Rivera, or the dual homes and studios of the artists. Our expert will enliven the modern architectural space, the objects and artwork within the stories of Diego’s interest in native Mexican cultures as well as the couple’s love and the impact that they had

Inclusions: Entrance tickets to the museum of Frida Kahlo and Studio of Diego Riviera, Art guide for 3 - 3,5 hours, Skip-the-line guided museum tour

Exclusions: Gratuities, Hotel pickup or drop-off (we recommend UBER)

You’ll visit the floating flower gardens of Xochimilco with one of our hosts, who also happens to be an archaeologist! The islands you’ll discover here are the last vestige of the ancient Aztec’s agricultural system. These canals used to create an intricate system of irrigation waterways. This promises to be an experience for the senses, as you visit the vibrant Xochimilco market and feast on pre-hispanic cuisine. Our handpicked hosts are culinary connoisseurs and history buffs, bakers and bankers, students and seniors. Like the people who travel with us, they have different backgrounds and interests – but they’re all so passionate about the place they call home, they choose to spend their free time sharing it with the like-minded travelers matched to them. Your meeting place and time as well as your itinerary are flexible, so you can plan and experience with your host to meet your needs.

Roberto was an incredible guide for our exploration into the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco! He was communicative and flexible, as well as being incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. It was clear that he knew about the history of the of Xochimilco, but was also in touch with present day issues facing the area. We learned so much about the community and Mexico City as a whole. It was really an awesome experience floating along the canals, such a unique place, and gaining insight into Mexico through Roberto. I highly recommend going with a guide (like Roberto) to fully understand the place, history and culture.
