I visited the museum in 1993. I may have been one of the first Westerners to visit right after the opening. Nearby was the Xiangtan hotel where I stayed for 28 days while visiting Xiangtan Mining Institute and Xiangtan University. Pleasant days.

I really enjoyed my visit to Confucious' Temple so much history in one place! If possible find a Guide to take you around it is much easier to understand what you are looking at!
The visit does involve a lot of walking and going up stairs and through doorways with high thresholds to see all of the areas so may not be as much fun for the less able bodied.
