Looking for a break during a drive from Lubeck to Rotterdam Europort and ferry, we chanced on Woerden and struck lucky. This small museum is worth a visit for the building alone. It has a delightful collection of local art, and impressive finds from the recent excavations of the Roman fort. There was also an interesting show by a contemporary Woerden artist.
On top of this, staff were notably charming: helpful without being over-bearing. And excellent postcards for sale.

De Windhond is een ronde stenen molen die 1785 in Woerden is gebouwd. De molen staat op één van de laatste stukjes stadswal, die oorspronkelijk deel uit maakte van een bastion, behorend bij de stadswallen van het oude Woerden. In 1984 is de molen gerestaureerd en vandaag de dag is deze als korenmolen nog steeds in gebruik. Het meel van de molen wordt op de wekelijkse streekmarkt verkocht! De molen kan regelmatig bezocht worden, de entree bedraagt 2 euro. Ook kan de molen worden bezocht onder begeleiding van een Gilde gids.

Wonderful experience in a typical Dutch countryside. Many activities available.. Imagine playing golf hitting a ball with a stick with a wooden shoe attached. Blue skies, green meadows, didges full of water, cows and sheep. Great fun which you won't believe until you tried it. Beautiful place and friendly staff. Good food and drinks. We had a lovely time with our family ( adults and children). Suitable place for family or business outing for groups of 6-15 people. A typical Dutch experience we will not forget.

If you travel with kids to Woerden, this is the place to bring them.
It is a large property, that comes with a bar and cafe. SO the parents are able to order their coffees or wine, while the kids play en enjoy the many attractions .

Well, this is not a 'drive in museum'. It's a parking garage that has some information about Roman times on the wall. Don't visit it if you're looking for a museum.

Op het sfeervolle Kerkplein van Woerden bevindt zich naast de Hervormde Petruskerk de Petrustoren, deze toren stamt uit 1384 en is plus minus 58 meter hoog. De toren bestaat uit 203 treden en de klim bestaat uit een aantal etappes. Op iedere tussenverdieping stopt het gezelschap onder leiding van een gids van het Gilde die er vertelt over de geschiedenis van Woerden, de toren, de immense klokken en de schilderwerken van de stad. Beklim de Petrustoren voor een prachtig uitzicht over Woerden en de regio. Iedere 2e en 4e zaterdag van de maand worden er speciale torenrondleidingen in de Petrustoren georganiseerd. De beklimming starten om 13.00, 14.00 en 15.00 uur. Voor kaarten kunt u terecht bij de VVV Woerden. De Petruskerk wordt op dezelfde dagen opengesteld als de Petrustoren. Daarnaast is de Petruskerk wat meer dagen opengesteld. De Hervormde Gemeente Woerden opent zijn deuren speciaal voor bezoekers om het prachtige interieur van de Petruskerk te bewonderen.

MIdden in het oude stadscentrum staat de Petruskerk met de bijgehorende kerktoren. De toren is al meer dan 600 jaar oud en kan beklommen worden (let wel op de zeer beperkte tijden waarop dit mogelijk is).

Vanaf het stadspark op de stadswallen van Woerden zag ik het fraaie witte landhuis uit 1824 van Landgoed Bredius en tot mijn verbazing bleek het een openbaar wandelpark-stadspark.
Alleen het Landhuis is prive. In 1824 liet de burgemeester van Woerden Dhr Bredius het witte landhuis bouwen en de fruitbomen planten.Er is ook een klein arboretum; een bomen-verzameling op Landgoed Bredius. Gratis toegang.

The Roman Catholic Sint Bonaventurakerk Woerden dating from 1892 was designed by architect Nicolaas Molenaar in late 19th century Neo-Gothic Style.Even when the main church is closed during working days,a view of the church interior can be had through the glass windows from the silent-centre (Stilte Centrum).This is an area between entrance and main church. Bonaventurakerk stands next to the 14th century "Kasteel van Woerden" and Theater "Het Klooster";normally only the outside can be visited of this castle.

Het Kasteel van Woerden staat naast de laat 19de eeuwse Sint Bonaventurakerk en Theater "Het Klooster".
Het in 1887 gerestaureerde kasteel is een trouw-lokatie,groeps-restaurant en er zijn woningen voor gehandicapten.Daarom is meestal alleen de buitenkant van het kasteel te bekijken.Ik vond het een van de meest markante gebouwen van het kleine stadje Woerden.

If youre new to the Netherlands and have not been to the cheese market, this market is a cute introduction to Dutch cheese markets. With dozens of farmers selling almost the same exact cheese, its fun to see. If, however, you like to sleep in on a Saturday, don't feel guilty if you've missed this cultural phenomenon.
