Kings Park & Botanic Garden

The park cultivates over 13,000 species of Western Australian plants and contains one of the world's largest areas of natural bush land close to a city.

King's Park has so many aspects that it is difficult to describe in one review. From sweeping views of the city and Swan River, to carefully tended paths through native plants it is one experience not to miss when visiting Perth. One of my favorite walks is the Law Walk which is around 3km long and winds through bush of various types with bottlebrushes, native orchids and other wildflowers in season, up and down hills. The air is so clean and smells great. There is a water Gardens with Fountains that the kids love. There are also a couple of sections of the park set aside for kids with statues to climb on, climbing frames, more ponds and Fountains. There are a wealth of eating spots scattered through the park: two restaurants, two cafes and plenty of barbecues which serve pretty good meals. There is a gift shop with many great choices for presents and souvenirs - not so cheap. In all, if you a looking for a healthy day out with the family or just seeing the sites, it is a must see. Entry is free and there is a good bus service that connects with the city.

Lake Monger

Reviewed By Chizzel - Perth, Australia

I have been coming here for many years, initially for romantic strolls with the girlfriend then progressed to showing the kids the black swans and ducks and now just for a peaceful strolls around the lake.
This has progressive become a more family friendly area with decent walking paths that go right around the lake with bird shelters / gazebos to stop and watch the wildlife.
It's right alongside the mitchell freeway and many parking spots.
Always a great free entertainment.

Wonderful show. Costumes etc fabulous. The cast really enjoyed themselves, spoke to some of them outside the theatre after the show. We always travel by train here as parking is scarce and expensive.

Kings Park War Memorial

Reviewed By Shenad18 - Sydney, Australia

As always, I make it a point to visit memorials wherever I go. Seeing this memorial up on a very high mountain made me more determined to get there. The memorial can be accessed via car, bus, cabs, etc. I walked from the CBD along Elizabeth Quay and the motorway - across a very long bridge to reach the hospital, and from there found Jacob’s ladder and climbed the 244 steps - panting and breathless.
It was all worth it. There were several memorials up in King’s Park. I took my time to check them out.
Wear sensible and comfortable shoes unless you drive directly up to the park. I enjoyed my walk around the place though there was a big crowd at the entrance due to “Ride for Youth” cycling event.
King’s Park adjoins the Botanic Gardens of WA hence after a nice little lunch or drink at the cafes there, you can walk through the Gardens and enjoy the native and foreign plants such as the giant Baobab.
I returned to the city via the Kokoda Trail - warning: very steep and roughly hewn steps into the mountain. Tread warily.
At the bottom, I turned left and walked towards Perth Hospital and caught a free bus (950) ride to the city.

The nostalgia box was one of the more unique experiences I’ve had in Perth. The staff were very friendly, talkative and helpful. I paid for entrance and walked around, looking at displays of video game consoles through the ages, then later got to play several consoles. You can play pong, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario Bros on NES and more. There is also a shop with a variety of things to buy. I loved it. I’ll go back if I return to Perth.
