Tiger Emperor Temple

Reviewed By AmethystAme - Singapore

I knew about this temple while preparing for the Sibu largest temple's article and I happened saw this tiger temple online. I then asked a lot of my family, local friends and relatives, none of them heard about this temple at all and no one know how to go.
Based on the information, we finally find the place. Here are some directions if you are going via the old airport road. You will reach a junction where left towards Taman Bukit Aup and right towards Jalan Teku. Take right towards Jalan Teku, drive until you see a roundabout then take 12 O'Clock way, go straight until you see Jalan Trusan, then follow the sign of the temple. You might not be able to find this small road on google map.
The temple is quite new, it was opened in Year 2005, so it is 7 years old now. 7 Seven Star General Tigers god(七星虎将军) stay in this temple, which they called as 虎帝庙, if translate to English it is Tiger Emperor Temple. The temple is not like the one you saw traditionally, it is like a cave and there main gate is closed. You have to enter the temple via the two side gates, just like you entering the cave.
Not easy to find but quite a unique temple.

Wong Nai Siong Garden

Reviewed By soh_kien_peng - Singapore, Singapore

Initially, I thought this was a sort of indoor memorial garden but was surprised it was an outdoor open air sort of garden. It was properly maintained and clean, apparently there was a great respect for this old man that the place was not vandalized. It was right in the middle of the Sungai Merah town beside the Sungai Merah canal. It is a rather small garden but you can see the garden the moment you alighted at the bus stop. I have read the biography of great adventurous Western explorers like Christopher Columbus, Magellan, Sir Stamford Raffles, tc but this great Chinese Christian of the Ching Dynasty has inspiring great courage to lead a group of 1188 Chinese Christians to Sibu. Sibu owed a lot of the present prosperity to this great man who has such great courage to venture this piece of area in Borneo when everything was still in its primitive stage during that period. My salute to such a great enterprising and adventurous spirit of a Chinese man born in a period of conservatism and old feudalism of the declining Ching dynasty.
If you are not driving, you can take bus no. 1 blue bus Teku Bas Co. direct to Sungai Merah. The bus will stop at the Sungai Merah market. You can see the market right in front of you. I took bus no. 3 to Bukit Aup Jubilee Park. After the visit to Jubilee Park, I visited a longhouse at Sungai Aup before coming to Sungai Merah town. It is about 6.1 km away from Jubilee Park. I managed to get a free ride from a good hearted Iban driver who offered to fetch me to the town as he was on his way to the market.
It is good to come to Sungai Merah to have a look at the unique redness of the river water. I was surprised to see that the water is dark chocolate red which is different from the tea milky color of River Rejang in Sibu cty.
