Lake Ohrid

We took a bus to Ohrid from Skopje and spent the day there. The lake is absolutely enchanting. We were enthralled by its beauty. We walked through the town for various views of the lake, with each turn giving us another picturesque sight. The lake has great charm and made a fantastic day trip from Skopje. In the future, we might even spend longer, should we find the time to return.

Lake Matka

Great escape for half a day - or a full day, check on TA forum about the possibility of full hikes from here to Millenium Cross - during your visit to Skopje.
The area is very quiet and nice, the caves are really nice and the boat trip is really worth it.
One star less because, anytime I see some natural wonder here in the Balkan, I am always disturbed by the quantity of trash you can see around...local people, please, take care of your beauties, and tourists will be even more grateful!
Practical tip: as other said, use bus no. 60 to reach the canyon (last stop). It can be taken from the Bus station - just consider that it is the so-called 'Transportation Center', that is the bus area under the road bridge and on the other side of the highway, if you reach the international bus station. Almost any major stop on Bulevard Partzanski and on the city center - tickets on board.

Unique mosque with a beautiful and impressive interior + garden. Only downside was the continuous flow of Turkish touring cars that let out their tourists for a 10-minute session of picture taking. Not much rest and tranquility...

Heraclea

Bitola is about an hour and a half drive from Ohrid town. Heraclea is on the outskirts. it is a large site which seems to have stopped its excavations due to lack of funding. The huge perfectly preserved roman mosaics are the loveliest I have ever seen. Absolutely stunning. The theatre is also realy nice. I cant understand why this treasure is not more well known. They should raise the entrance fee for sure.

River Drim

The attractive River Drim is the outflow from the beautiful, clean Freshwater Lake Ohrid, and the water rushes under wooden Bridges through a man made channel with restaurants on either side. The mouth of the river is an attractive area, with reed beds and small sailing craft. This is, without doubt, the most attractive part of Struga

It was nice to walk along the lake and to drive up the mountain to the upper part of the park. The Springs near the lake are great . I wish we were there in the spring - August was awfully hot.

Wow! What a view and what a fantastic place to go. You have got to go up on the gondola and check out this attraction. We went up on a windy afternoon and were treated to some different views of the area. We did see three countries at the same time from the top.

National Park Pelister

Reviewed By cherriesfan_9 - Cheltenham, United Kingdom

The oldest of Macedonia's national parks, Pelister occupies the mountain range in the south- central of that country, with its nearest urban area being the ancient city of Bitola.
Reasonably accessible on the lower slopes, the actual mountain top "Pelister" is at 2601 metres.
Virtually forested throughout this national park is famous for its ancient Molika pine trees, which cover most of the lower and mid range slopes.
Various hiking trails are explained by notice boards - together with their estimated completion time.
This National Park is an attractive well cared for forested area.
