We could see and hear many birds of the sanctuary, while we could overlook the Lake on both sides of the peninsula of Mettnau. We were lucky to see wild swans, geese, ducks and cormorants.

This is a very nice family place. We saw lots of deer, brown bears, wild boars, rams
and a wonderful bird show that lasted about a half hour and was very interesting and enlightening. There is a great area for the children to entertain themselves with clever rides and a train ride. Highly recommended and worth every minute.

First a warning - it's a long steep climb from car park/ticket office (about 1km) and when you do reach the actual fortrification entrance it's an even steeper climb mainly over cobbled stones so care needs to be taken and sensible shoes worn - especially after rain. And then when you do reach to top there's the old church tower to climb in order to obtain the best views! A massive tip is to make sure you purchase tickets (4.50e per adult) at the car park office as entry at the top is via ticket scanner and it's a long way back - there's no possibility of sneaking over the ramparts! However, not only is there a restaurant next to the car park, there's also a snack bar just before you enter the scanner turnstile at the top.
The views as you climb the slopes and from the top are worth the effort, with panoramic vistas towards Schaffhausen, Bodensee/Lake Constance, over Singen and further north. Essentially, the first castle was built in 914 and expanded over the years and considered unconquerable. However, in 1801 it was destroyed under the orders of Napoleon and hence it's ruined condition today. I was surprised just how large an area the castle and fortifications cover.
There are information panels with numbers and audio symbols all round the site but we were not offered anything so not sure how that works. There's a small gift shop within the ticket office area and a museum above.

Take a boat ride here for the pictures and a meal, then leave. It is a pretty, small old town with some very interesting architecture but sadly that is where it ends. It is primarily filled with cheap souvenir shops. You find next to nothing made in Switzerland.

Hermann Hesse Hori Museum

Our party of two was one Hesse fan and one non-fan. There were a lot of great photos and some nice memorabilia from his life, but mostly everything was in German. It was nice to be able to go inside an actual Hesse house, though it's not furnished and a number of the displays are not specifically related to Hesse. We did do the walk over to the house he had built, it's not far but you don't get much of a good look at it as it's a private residence with hedgerows and bushes blocking the view.

Napoleonmuseum Thurgau

The most beautiful castle at Lake Constance with authentic interior design and romantic park grounds. You will feel like you've been transported to the time of Queen Hortense and her son, Napoleon III. This is where the last French Emperor spent his childhood! Several personal items create an intimate atmosphere. Almost as though the former residents of the castle had only gone out for a short walk in the stately park.

We decided to get together with a couple of our good friends with kids. It was a beautiful June day and the weather was very warm... the lake was over full and still a bit chilly in the water, but we had a great time. Kids were swimming, parents and grandparents were all swimming together.
This is a great place that wasn't too crowded and had plenty of places to lay out. Trees for shade if you wanted or full direct sunlight.
They have food there or bring a picnic lunch with you.

Seemaxx Outlet Center

Reviewed By nnmercman - Camberley, United Kingdom

I think the building is a converted warehouse and it's well designed with a simple layout over two floors which makes good use of space (too often malls/outlets are confusingly laid out and difficult to navigate). One strange feature is from the top floor you look down into shops below as they've no ceiling. Can't say I saw much in the way of bargains and guess perhaps it's aimed at Swiss shoppers? There's a large (payment) car park out front but even on a Friday afternoon it looked almost full. You can reach the centre from town via a walk through which takes you past other shops and cafes and you'll know you're on the right path when you see the huge modern piece of art on the side of a building half way along!
I would say this is not a destination in itself but more something you'd do in conjunction with a visit to the town.
