Magnificent golden beach, with great weather throughout the year. There is nothing better then it's turquoise water.

We arrived here just before opening, but the owner let us in early ,warned us that the parrots would bite our wristbands off ( yes we should have taken more notice of that !) and even gave us some fish food to hand feed the carp . The two parrots on stands are a bit nippy , so i wouldn't advise letting children hold them , but they are adorable . Many of the birds are free flying , and go in and out of their cages as they wish, or wander freely like the peacocks, peahens and their chicks. We spent just over an hour looking round , the 3 euro entry is a bargain to be honest . If you are enchanted by the porto santo lizards , you will also find them in droves here. Get a good taxi driver and he will give you his card so you can phone him when you want to be picked up if you would rather do this trip independently. Just under 10 euros each way from the Pestana Hotel.

The free pick-up service worked very well and brought us from INATEL PORTO SANTO Hotel to the southern cape restaurant. We had a very good time here, dinner was: fish soup, with lots of wild tuna, grilled tuna with fried corn cubes, pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream. It’s so relaxing this place, good service, and the Planalto white wine was the perfect choice.

Wow,what an amazing place which I didn't know existed until looking for a holiday earlier this year. A very small island so unless you want to lay on a sun bed or the beach every day then a week is probably long enough for most. The Pestana hotels are fabulous. Unless you hire a twiggy and keep to the roads then the jeep trip is a must, takes you places cars can't reach. Some fantastic geology to see and Vila Baleria, although small is worth a visit.
