There is a good English language brochure. But it was very quiet when we visited and the attendant showed us several interesting features of the house. The villa is small and somewhat quirky. The small Gardens were lovely. I think it is the highlight of Ozu.

I vividly remember the very intriguing spectacle of the dark old wood and bright new wood contrasting sharply as I moved between the reconstructed tenshukaku (main keep) and adjoining yagura (turret) at Ōzu Castle. The tenshukaku was reconstructed in 2004 using historical materials and principles of construction. This is what a freshly built castle looked like in feudal Japan and it presents a rare opportunity for seeing a reconstructed castle interior at such scale. The reconstructed tower is attached to two adjoining yagura – or wings as they’re on either side- the Daidokoro-yagura (Kitchen turret) to the right and the Kōran-yagura to the left. The tower complex forms an “L” shape. There are a further two original yagura away from the main site: Owata-yagura (1843) downhill on the Hiji River, and the Sannomaru Minami Yagura (1766) (south corner turret in the third bailey) located on the grounds of a high school, which I could not see. Finally there is an old raised floor storehouse still standing too. Exhibits inside the tenshukaku mostly show how Castles were built, including the resources for them gathered, which is a very interesting topic for me.
History:
The first fort at this site dates to 1331, established by Utsunomiya Toyofusa. During the Sengoku Period a coalition army of the Kono and Mōri clans defeated the Utsunomiya and in 1568 Ono Naoshige of the Kono clan became castellan.
In 1585 Toyotomi Hideyoshi conquered Shikoku and placed Kobayakawa Takakage (adoptive father of Kobayakawa Hideaki) in charge. A series of lords were placed here from this time (Tōdō in 1595, Wakisaka in 1608) and the castle as we see it today was built up between 1585 and 1617, with the four-tier tenshukaku being built between 1608 and 1617, originally a Mawariyagura went around the honmaru, forming a courtyard for the tenshukaku. From 1617 the Katō Clan ruled until the Meiji Restoration. In 1888 the main tower was lost. It was rebuilt in 2004 from historically accurate materials.

This is a small reconstructed wooden castle with a nice view. It was originally built around 1600. There is limited English.
A nice visit to Ozu includes the castle, a walk through the old part of town, and a visit to Garyu Sanso at the other end. My suggestion would be to allow about 30 minutes for the castle and about 2+ hours total for the stop in Ozu.

この神社は世界のモニュメントリストに「危機に瀕している世界のモニュメント」に抽出、掲載されている我が国でも希少な形状の建物、参籠殿を有する神社です。こんな特異な形状で、しかも世界に知られているのに今だ口コミゼロ？信じられない。安物の食堂やどうでもいいようなレストランチェーン店は一杯掲載されているのに・・・旅行者のためとか旅行者の視点での口コミと云うならどうて゛もいいような食べ物屋リストじゃなく、こう云う観光地こそ取り上げられて然るべき。この参籠殿は１９３４年と云うまだ１００年も経過していないので単に大洲市が指定有形文化財としているだけですが、参籠殿の下まで行って見上げるとびっくりしますよ。山の斜面に沿ってなんと又高い建物か、木で組んだ櫓の上に乗っかっているような凄い形状の建物です。２０１４年にワールド・モニュメント財団によって危機に瀕しているモニュメントのリストに掲載されることになりました。「懸け造り」と云う極めて珍しい建物です。一見、清水寺舞台とか東大寺二月堂を彷彿させる形状です。氏子が居ないこの神社は地域住民の支えで存続しています。神社の歴史、縁起は相当な古社ですが・・・。

It's quite hard to go to this island since there are only two boats round trips in a day, departing from the land at around 8 AM and 2:30 PM. But also you need to take at least 1 hour from Matsuyama city downtown, you need to be hurry to get the boat. If you go to the island by 2:30 PM's boat, then you only have around 1 hour to look around the island. On the other hand, if you take the 8 AM boat, then you have to be in the island for around 8 hours. You need to get the foods for cats and yours also. Around 100 cats are living there and all are so lovely. Sometimes some cats are little bit aggressive especially young cats, but almost all cats are following people a lot. If you hold the food, they will follow you along. Additionally, in the train coming back to Matsuyama, you can see the beautiful scenery in the back of the train. It would be invaluable experience here even though it could be hard day on that day!!

屋根付橋に限ると８つですが大洲市は更に一か所、「飛石橋」を加えて９つの橋を選定していました。屋根付橋を何故、浪漫８橋と呼ぶのかは解りませんが・・・どの橋も同じようなものばかりで、印象としてはどれがどれだかさっぱり意識の中では区別が出来ない。が、この９つ目の橋は絶対に忘れない橋です。古くからこの地域の住民が生活の知恵として川幅３１ｍの河辺川に約２７個の飛石を並べて農道として利用していた。ふるさと水と土の保全モデル事業として親水スペースとしても利用出来るように復元してありました。対岸にも簡単に渡れますし、仮に大水が出ても治まった後で並べ変えれば元通りになると云う便利でリーズナブル(若干、渡るリスクはあるものの)な橋でした。一方、屋根付きの橋は歴史のあるものもありますが、半分位は真新しく浪漫八橋にするために後付けで屋根だけ付けた、と云う感じがしました。つまらない。

以前は８８か所札所第４３番の準堂としての参拝でしたが、今回は正式に四国別格２０霊場の第７番札所としての参拝です。「しゅっせきじ」と云いますが、地元では「どいしさん」としての方が良く通じます。ここには広大な宿泊施設があり約３００人は宿泊出来るとか・・。寺院については前回の口コミで説明しましたので今回は略。アクセスはかなり困難な場所で、スリルがある道中ですが、山上に建つ堂宇は立派なものです。ここは８８か所遍路寺よりも堂宇も縁起も格式・雰囲気も数段上に感じました。完全に利益追求霊場と化した四国８８か所＋高野山よりも昭和になってから組織化された霊場会ですが、こちらの方が上！。

明治の街並み、って云ったって、実際は明治に生きていた訳でもないので・・・云われてしまえば「そうなのか？」と思う程度。何の感慨もない臥龍山荘へ行く途中の道ってだけです。ここは伊予の小京都と云われているらしい。個人的にはどうでも良いような幕末の人間、坂本龍馬が夜逃げした際に食事した店とか・・・つまらないです。それよりもテレビで見ていた東京ラブストーリーと云う番組のロケ場所としてなら記憶していますが・・。(ここで龍馬の悪口云うと叱られるらしいけど・・)何とか云う女優さんが別れの手紙を出すシーンで使用されたのがこのレトロなポストとか・・それなりの風情はある場所でした。ここは無料の駐車場もあって・・・この町は観光誘致に対して、極めて熱心、極めて努力している。地元の京都みたいに昔からの遺産で勝手に人が来る訳でもないので・・・町を挙げて努力しているのが良く解る。ボッタクリもしない町、真面目な小京都のありふれた石畳の道でした。

長浜大橋と云うよりも「赤橋」として有名です。現存する同様の橋の中ではこのバスキュール式道路可動橋としては最古のものらしい。以前は船舶が主要輸送機関であったので度々、通過の度に可動していましたが、今は観光として定期的に可動させているとのことです。夜が特に綺麗、ライトアップされた可動橋が上下する様子を見るのに相当な時間待っていましたが、可動しているのを見ると感慨もひとしお・・・日曜日だったので午後１時以降に可動させているとのことでした。ライトアップは夏季が７月１日から８月末まで、時間は午後７時半から午後９時まで。到着したのが(この時間帯を知らなかったので)午後６時１５分だったので４５分も待っていましたが・・・。調べてから行けば良かった。

今の銀行は儲けとパフォーマンス以外には何の取り柄も無い低俗な存在となっているが(４０年以上もそこに勤務していたので内部の人間として実態把握している)、昔の銀行はこの建物を見ても解るように環境に優しく、地域に根差した、１００年、２００年の計を視野に入れた職業だったんですねぇ・・・。ここは明治３４年に大洲商業銀行として建設された赤煉瓦の建物。イギリス積と云う方式の煉瓦の積み方をしたもので屋根だけは瓦を乗せた和洋折衷の素晴らしい建物でした。いろいろと活用された後に、今では資料室や物産販売店、カルチャー教室等に活用し続けられています。見た目だけが綺麗で、太陽光発電等の利用を「必要以上に」アピールしている(それしかアピールするものがないから)軽薄な建物の今の銀行とえらい違い。この銀行を造った人達の思想と使命感が感じられるような由緒ある建物でした。
