International Ski School APEAK

Ski and snowboard school. Montgenèvre. Small classes, fun tuitions. Great for a successful skiing holiday

Reviewed By thesimianprince - Basel, Switzerland

We had 3 kids (14, 12, 9) in different classes, one with snowboard, the other two ski. Excellent pre-trip organisation and advice from Victor (including great tip for family lift pass deal), and the school is very well managed by Seb and Nico. The kids weren't exactly looking forward to ski school but had great fun instructors and big smiles on their faces at the end of every day, and especially the last day with medal presentation etc. It was also easy for us to get one of the kids into a different group after the first lesson. Massive thanks to the instructors Luca, Tony, Max and Julien for taking such good care of our kids, improving their ability and making sure they had fun! Thanks APEAK, we'll be back next season for more of the same! Cheers.

Montgenevre Ski Resort

We visited as a group of mixed ability skiers, from novice to expert. The slopes were lovely and uncrowded. There were plenty of easy greens and wide blues. Reds and blacks for the more experienced and lots of off piste. We went over the border to Clavier for a day and had some lovely skiing there. Restaurants were good and not over priced and the pool was a good option for an unwind. Some of the lifts are a bit dated but the lack of queues made up for this.

Luge Monty Express

Really good fun when it’s open. (In mid March it was open just the once during the week due to snowfall) it’s €7 with a lift pass or €10 without one, which includes your single use on the gondola lift to get up to the top of the track. You then have the option of getting your photo for just €3 (printed and emailed copy) at the photo booths at the bottom

Fort du Mont Chaberton

Reviewed By dmdf - Bristol, United Kingdom

Allow a good 6 hrs to do this from Claviere. 14km with about 1400m of ascent. The trail is toughest in the middle third, between the Roucher Rouge ski lift and the col - steep, rocky and loose in places. Take plenty of water because in summer there's nowhere to refill beyond the Roucher Rouge ski lift, around 60-80 mins up from Claviere. The hike is amazing, especially above the col, with stunning views and lots of old military junk around - ruins of a cable lift, guard posts, barbed wire fields and some additional gun emplacements on the lower slopes. Look out for a section of mangled 25mm armour plate that perhaps was blown onto the slopes by an explosion during the 1941 destruction of the fort by French mortars. Once at the top, if you have a torch it's possible to explore the underground section of the fort but probably not that safe as its full of ice even in high summer and derelict. One of the gun turrets can be climbed via the fairly intact stairs inside. Btw the road down to Fenils is closed (I think damaged and impassable due to a rock fall).
