Festvagtind Hike

The hike starts with the parkinglot in Festvag. Walk 100 m in direction Henningsvaer, take a turn to the right and follow the trail. It`s steep, but the view is amazing.

Hiking up is definitely worth the effort. If you dont dare to go all the way up: there is incredible views to be seen in the midsection of the trail in ”heiavannet viewpoint” as well. If you are climbing all the way you should still visit this midsection viewpoint and possibly swim in the lake located up there. Locals said that I could also drink the water from the lake beside ”hieavannet” and I did top my bottles there! :) All the way to the top awaits a view that is really worth the trouble of getting up there. To me it took about 2h to climb all the way up. Would probably reserve 3-4h total so you can rest and take in the view as well. There is paid parking at the starting point. From the midsection up the trail is more tricky. If it is raining be extra careful.

Galleri Lofoten

Gallery Lofoten has Norway’s largest collection of paintings from Northern Norway dating back to the turn of the last century – a period by many called the golden age of North Norwegian painting. On the gallery’s ground floor you find a collection of paintings by renowned artists like Otto Sinding, Gunnar Berg, Even Ulving, Adelsteen Normann, Einar Berger, Ole Juul, Thorolf Holmboe and others. The gallery’s first floor is divided into two sections – one exhibiting watercolours by Lars Lerin and one exhibiting pictures and ceramic works by Her Majesty Queen Sonja. In the gallery shop you find a selection of art books, postcards, and posters by the exhibition’s artists. In our café you may enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese platter from the local cheese producer Aalan Farm.

Sea Eagle Safari

Sea Eagle safari from Henningsvaer. Visit these majestic birds on the rugged coastline of Lofoten. In a giant rubber dinghy - a mere meter above the sea's surface - you can experience nature in a brand new way. Nordland is land of the sea eagles. Here you will find the world’s most compact stock of these majestic birds of prey that can have a wing span of up to two metres. We operate daily sea eagle safaris off the coast of Henningsvaer, allowing you to experience the sea eagles at close quarters in their natural environment. We search for other species of bird life e.g Puffins and Comorants. If we are lucky we could even see seals and other sea mammal life.

Henningsvær is a very cosy little place that I enjoy staying in. Small shops and galleries, great characteristic fishing village and still a vibrant town. Just being here makes me relax. Take some time here and slow down.

The Klatreskole with the adjoint Klatrekafeen and the outdoors store are a must for anyone looking for hiking, skiing or of course climbing in Lofoten. They lent us a crashpad for three days for a tip, gave us great recommendations on where to go and a skiing guide free of charge in exchange for the promise to come back. Nordic charme and incredible food top it off. Very recommendable!
