Batsto Village

Once an industrial center for iron and glass, this village now contains over 30 historic buildings.

When you get a day in the upper 70's in February (in NJ), you find something to do outdoors! Batsto Village was suggested to us, so we took a ride over.
We (my 10 year old daughter and myself) were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful grounds! Part of Wharton State Forest, the area is just beautiful. The structures there are so well maintained, ranging from a blacksmith shed, horse barns, hydro-barn, the mansion and houses. The lake is just breathtaking, and the trails are well maintained.
We did not go in the visitor center, but saw many people coming out with information on the canoe launch and the trails.
This was such a gem of an experience , my daughter stopped to read each and every description plaque, and loved it! Even our dog enjoyed exploring these grounds!

In the summer you will often see the white event tents lit up at night. Events in the past have included, jazz concerts, aucostic music and wine and food pairings. We were taken via town car by South Jersey Wine Tours (great experience and perfect gift thanks to our children) from Brigantine to Almathea winery (about 50 minutes) Alicia explained how they make it, why they mix what they do and where each grape comes from. The pours are not large. But after the 15th one, you understand why! Very quaint 100 year old building. Lovely outside patio area where you can enjoy a nice bottle of and relax. The wines were all very good. Great experience. Highly recommend SJ wine tours, the car and driver stayed with us from 3 til after dinner. We went to another winery after and then to dinner. Great gift for those that are hard to buy for...driver took care of all charges, again thanks to our kids.

We went to Pineland Adventures in Alstion, NJ to visit and tour the cranberry bogs. A very interesting and great spot for an afternoon. We learned about the area from the gentleman who checked us in. He was young and very knowledgeable about the area having been born and raised there. He also gave us a good recommendation for a local diner - the Shamong Diner - in the area with good home cooking, good service and friendly faces. Our tour guide, Rob, fed us with cranberry bars made by his wife before we even got on the mini school bus for our tour. He also was friendly and knowledgeable about the entire area, and we came away with information I`d never known before. I recommend this place and tour whole heartedly. A really great day!

We did a bachelor party and the bachelor run was the highlight of the day.Truth be told; I have more fun than our Bachelor/ Bachelorette Party guests and they usually have the time of their life. Our referees are the best and it clearly shows. Thank you for supporting us in doing what we love to do. Bill Hayes

We found this place kind of by accident and glad we did. Very nice little family owned / operated winery. The owner and family were very friendly and funny. The facility itself was small but cozy. The wine was excellent. Nice selection and variety. The blackberry was incredible. We are going to make this a regular on our list. There are also a couple other wineries close by too. I also reviewed Plagido's which is about 3 miles away and worth the stop.
