Salamis

Just a short drive from the main town, the ruins are just off the parking lot. Not overrun with visitors, but a sprawling gymnasium and baths complex and wonderful ampitheatre are highlights. The short loop takes you to all you need to see. We did the longer walk, which goes through brush for a while before coming to much less impressive ruins.

We have just came back from Mr John’s Ghost Town Tour. We booked direct with Mr John who you can find parked up in his minibus on the Protaras strip of an evening. Omg what a fantastic tour, ots only €20 where if u book with TUI they charge a lot more. Mr John was able to take us to places off the track that the TUI coach would be unable to reach certain areas . Mr John’s bus is very comfortable with air conditioning and you get perfect views all around. Mr John who is a Greek Cypriot and lives in ghost town many many years ago. and Mr Ahmed his tour guide is a Turkish Cypriot were both very informative throughout the trip and as they both spoke about there history you could feel there pain and hurt of what’s happened (they are both peace keepers) they really gave us a true insight and first hand experience of what it was like to live in Cyprus before and after the invasion in 1974. We visited various locations that mean a lot and have history. We went to the lookout point of the ghost town underneath a cafe they even let you use the Binoculars, I saw the Turkish army doing there patrols. We even walked on the Famagusta beach which is totally amazing. We stopped for lunch in the old city. We then was recommended a beautiful restaurant called Petek which was very reasonably priced and the cakes omg are truly amazing !! What A fantastic day out which I truly recommend!!! It’s a defo must please please go and book direct with mr John the experience is truly amazing. He picks you up at your hotel and drops you back there. Don’t forget your passports... I just want to thank Mr John and Mr Ahmed for an amazing tour guide and I hope this all gets resolved soon. And thank you for being honest and showing us your amazing memories ❤️.
