Holy Pafnutiev Borovsky Monastery

This monastery is considered to be the main attraction of Borovsk, although it is not located within the town but in the Roshcha village. Known abode, here was buried the Boyarynya (noblewoman) Morozova, the main character in the famous painting of Surikov. However, due to the fact that the monastery is still men's, her tombstone was moved to another temple. The monastery complex is beautiful – largely because it's restored. The area around the buildings is properly maintained . Very valuable frescoes of Dionysius, somewhat reminiscent of his creations from the Ferapontov monastery. However, there is a "but". Local monks are arrogant and boast of wealth of the monastery. It is prohibited to photograph, you need to seek the permission of the priest, the monastery area in some places looks like a market that sells chinese goods and medicinal herbs and syrups of questionable value from Altai.

You can relate to the creative manner by a local artistand to assess the fruits of his imagination, depicted on the walls of houses in Borovsk, in different ways. For example, I can not enroll yourself in the fans of his graffiti. As far as I know, there are some residents with similar mixed attitude. As representatives of the city administration, which is trying to place the activity of the artist in any legal framework. However, it is impossible not to admit that this street art unexpected in a provincial town makes the appearance of Borovsk original and not comparable. It is a pity that between the artist and the city authorities there is misunderstanding and conflict. And what he used for his graffiti are cheap and short-living paints, that's why they are deteriorating and losing the clarity and purity.

The wooden temple quite rare for modern times. Located on the outskirts of Borovsk. It is only quite fresh, set on the site of the former old church, also of wood, but built without a single nail. Partially used old logs. Despite the fact that the spirit of new construction is felt the church and its neighborhood makes a good impression, which does not prevent even a nearby cemetery. It stands on a hill, and the observation point offers excellent views of Borovsk. After about 300 meters of descent towards Protva river, you will see the spring of the Pokrov mother of God with two baths – men's and women's

This Cathedral in Soviet times was closed only for a short period of time, which is unusual. It is virtually in the center, close to the Central square with the trading stalls of the 18th century, museum of local history and one of the houses with frescoes by a local artist Ovchinnikov. The Cathedral is standing on the dais and can be seen from the entrance to the town. From outside it is not particularly impressive, but inside there is very rich decoration. This impressive iconostasis - the icon of Kazan mother of God (left), the icon-reliquary with the particle of the Holy cross, a carved icon of St. Nicholas, the icon and the staff of the monk Paphnutii of Borovsk. Especially venerated carved icon of St. Nicholas of Mozhaisk (right), dating from the XIV century. Carved wooden icons - the statues of the XVI century are the big rarity for Orthodox churches.

The church is located at the entrance to the town and clearly visible from the road, especially its high bell tower. But from outside it's difficult to consider – the area in front of the church is too small. The approach is better from the belfry. It is pink, there is no other churche of such colour in the town. In fact, the church is not old, but in this place before it was standing another one, built in the early 18th century. This church is of stone, has a multi-row cornices, elegant platband and too many window openings for this kind of sacred buildings.
As usual in Borovsk, near the сhurch there is a water spring.

Church of the Intercession

If you go to the center of Borovsk, after the church of Boris and Gleb, the first notable temple will be the old believer church of the intercession. It is in a very poor condition, although the restoration is still going slowly and from the domes is even removed scaffolding. I don't quite understand by whom it is carried out - whether a diocese, or of nuns of the old believer monastery. This is definitely the most interesting church in the aesthetic attitude in the town. It is designed in some eclectic way, combining features of neo-Russian and Gothic style, very proportionate and harmonious. At least it looks like that. Watchong it is better from the central square, for a long time the temple was actually located on the territory of carpool, and access to it is difficult.

Not very interesting museum. It is small — only a few rooms on two floors. Tsiolkovsky lived here a short time, little more than a year, so there are here not many of his true things. However, there is a work desk, and also some pretty funny stuff that Tsiolkovsky was making for his disciples (he worked as a teacher in Borovsk) - like flying kites, as well as some devices of not always understandable purpose. On the rest — photos of his friends, reconstruction, scanty exhibition devoted to the space program in general, it is enough to cast only a cursory glance. Perhaps, they don't deserve more.

Очень необычно: совмещение колокольни старообрядческого храма Всех Святых и выставочного зала современной, советской постройки.
В данном случае - совершенно гармоничный архитектурный микс.
