A single road passes through the Nockberge & it's usually closed once the snows come with a nominal entry fee.
Stunning scenery which can be enjoyed by drivers, riders and walkers alike. Lots of stop offs on the way to while away the time.
Don't rush it but importantly don't miss out on it

Alpen Wildpark

I was stunned by this unassuming looking place but when I went in I was amazed. The museum is extraordinary. The amount of time and effort which must have gone into collating the exhibits and in such an interesting and informative way must have been enormous.
Basically there were life size replicas of animals and birds from many different parts of the world and ranged in a way that you could see clearly what was what. There were also booklets with descriptions and so forth. Unfortunately these were only in German so if you did not read German you would be the worse off.
Outside there were live animals too - some you could even go in with. I found the whole thing fascinating.
If you are stayingh at a hotel you will probably get the Kärnten card which will give you free admission to this attraction and another 100 or so in Carinthia. An amazing value tourist benefit which cannot be overstated. If you do not get one free, go and buy it; you will recover your money in just a few visits.
Wonderful for children and adults alike and I guess you could easily spend half a day there and still have more to see if you really want to get stuck in.

Beautifully located in the lake district of Carinthia, this is a really great place to spend half a day. Better to go in nice weather, because it's mostly an outdoor activity and the setting is so pretty that you will want to wander about. First you tour the museum with an exhibit of minerals and primary focus on different colors and types of garnets. The exhibition is just the right size, enough content to be interesting but not so much that it would strain the patience of children, plus there are many interesting items that you are allowed to touch. Then you go through a mine shaft and enter the area where, equipped with a hammer, you can extract your own garnet. Be sure to get a demo first from the very helpful supervisor, as otherwise you will have a hard time and will just make a mess without getting a nice stone. He will make sure you are successful, and once you have your stone, for an additional fee you can have it drilled and turned into a necklace right there in the giftshop.

Heidi Alm Kindererlebnispark

Reviewed By Sarpa74 - Haarlem, The Netherlands

Unless really interested in Heidi and friends, there is nothing particularly interesting in this park. Over 20 static figures depict the story of Heidi. For active kids, this is simply boring after a few figures. Especially as one isn't allowed to touch the figures while kids love to take pictures with their 'hero's'. Staff had a bad day as well. Overall not worth the petrol to drive uphill although the surrounding area is interesting for hikers.

Very funny.. The roller coaster reachs 50 km/h speed and during the downhill you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Mountains and the Turrachersee.
But too many people go too slowly and use too much the brakes.
If you run just after people like those, you miss the most of the fun because you reach them even in the middle of the downhill and you have to slow as well.
I could see most of this people are typically mothers with kids.
I'd like then to suggest the attendants to wait some more time before giving the green light to drivers following mother with young boys.

Great place for the good and beginner skiers. There are long steep slopes for the older and a path for the young ones. The only thing I didn’t like is that to go back down to your car you have to ski down a long slope which may be hard if you are a beginner like me.

Definitely worth a go if you're staying in Bad Kleinkirchheim. There are many walks you can take from the top, and there is also the Mittelstation, so if you're tired you don't have to walk all the way down to the bottom: you can jump on the lift and go down with that. I recommend trying the delicious apple (or blueberry) strudel at the Mittelstation. Thermal Römerbad is at the foot of Kaiserburgbahn, so you can enjoy a peaceful relax after a day walking on the Mountains. A wide free parking area is also there, easy to find.

Terme St. Kathrein

Reviewed By Sunflower_Kids - Guildford, United Kingdom

We went here about five years ago and were rather disappointed after visiting the other thermal baths in BKK (Romerbad). However, the owners of the spa have just spent 10 million Euros on a massive refurbishment and the results are impressive!
The old pools remain largely unchanged (although modernised). The indoor thermal baths are still ideally suited to young families with shallow areas and all sorts of Fountains - kids love this place! The outside pools (one warm and one colder) afford stunning views across the Mountains. A huge new indoor pool has been added (for adults only) and a large relaxation room with wood panelled walls and beds - this new area is really very nice indeed.
There is also a new restaurant serving a small but very nice menu. The changing rooms have been modernised and there are now nice lockers and showers which are still segragated for men / women. Parking is plentiful and free (across the street).
The sauna area has been improved too with new tiling and Seating - although the number of saunas remains unchanged. More investment is needed here I think - they could easily add more saunas and make more of this area.
I disagree with the comments made in other reviews. You don't need to be naked in the sauna area - many people wear towels in the saunas. People in Northern Europe (Holland, Denmark, Germany, Austria etc) don't wear swimsuits in saunas because they stop the skin from sweating and allow bacteria from the swimsuit to be ingested into the body.
Bad Kleinkirchheim (BKK) remains a nice place to visit in winter or summer.

The mystically beautiful NOCKALM ROAD in Carinthia/Austria
The Nocky Mountains are the gentle side of the Alps and a geographical rarity. The wonderful rolling landscape features Forests, pastures, small lakes reflecting the blue sky. Especially nice is the drive on the 35 kilometres winding road in autumn when the sky gets clearer, when the colours start changing into a splendid Indian Summer, the view as far as you can imagine, and far away you can see already snow covered mountain peaks. Every so often you can even hear the marmots whistle and you can watch birds of prey circling high up in the sky.
Rustic lodges invite you to have a break and enjoy Carinthian’s culinary specialities.
A number of Exhibitions provide information on petrified fossils, the geology of the area, alpine farming and the flora and fauna.
There is also a rustic spa, Karlbad, which is over 300 years old, where you can enjoy a bath in a wooden trough, filled with water from the near stream and warmed with heated up boulders from the very same stream. And don’t forget, we are talking about heights from 1,000 to 2,000 metres! It’s well worth visiting this special corner of Carinthia and witness nature in unimagined
