My husband and I and a couple of friends experienced the Viking "Magnificent Mekong" Trip and Cruise which began in Hanoi, followed by Siem Reap and then onto the Mekong for a 7 day cruise to Phnom Penh and the Mekong Delta ending up in Saigon. For the most part this was an excellent trip. The guides were great, the hotel very nice, and the food on the boat was very good. It was also very interesting to see this part of Southeast Asia. The excellence of the trip was marred only by the Viking Bureaucracy. We read in the trip literature that if our airfare was purchased through the company that Viking would transfer us from the airport to the hotel. We duly purchased ( business class) airfare and called Viking to confirm that we would be entitled to be picked up, receiving a confirming email. No one was at the airport in Hanoi to pick us up. Finally after much milling around and calling someone did emerge and dropped us at the hotel. It was a demoralizing way to begin our Viking journey. What was more off-putting, though, was that Viking's attitude seemed to be that we were lucky to get transportation, rather than the sincere apology which is what we were seeking. Afterwards, I emailed the Viking agent who had sent me the confirming email about airport transportation outlining what had occurred. I received no response whatsoever from that person. Compared to some of the things that happen to travelers this was just a minor incident and it certainly did not ruin our trip, but the way the company handled this issue was extremely impersonal and disappointing, and went completely counter to the warm and personalized attention that the personnel on the boat offered. I receive regular emails from Viking offering me deals on additional cruises but no one from Viking has the time to say they are sorry. My advice would be to check and confirm every detail of what you expect to receive.

I visited this place while 40°C outdoor. You will have to sail on small boat or moto boat to visit this place. Should bring camera and umbrella, hat. This is a good place to take some captures, video, selfies. It's rather far from my hotel about 50km, bad condition of road and narrow single lane. There no more birds left here due to much of tourists.

Our group was picked up by bus by Ms. San’s Tours around 6am and headed to the pier which was maybe 3-5min drive away from our hotel. Then arrived at our boat for a 2 hour tour. The floating market is not what I was expecting. I was thinking it was going to be like Bangkok. It sure was not. You are not in a narrow canal but in the middle of a bay. It had a rural local feeling market. We seemed to be the only tourist boat out there. We stopped at many boats. Got coffee’s for everyone (hot or iced) and pho. You have to try the Vietnamese (iced) Coffee. It was incredible. San made sure we got to see first hand how they worked out of their boats. They have a hook that they hooked onto our boat and make you whatever you are wanting to order or look at. The much large boats where selling local fruits and vegetables to smaller boats, some personal use and some fur businesses. Everything was so fresh! Lots of tossing around. Locals all seemed very friendly. If they were not right in the middle of something they would wave or give you a huge friendly Smile. When I returned to the hotel and my spouse saw pictures he was jealous he didn’t come with us and that he missed out on this opportunity. So don’t you do the same.

Booked easily online through Baolau for Hang Chau Tourist speedboat. In Châu Doc, Murray from Murray Guesthouse easily made phone call and organised free pick up on cyclo for couple minute ride to boat. It was fun. The staff on speedboat were great. They effortlessly organised everything to do with paperwork for visas. Bring blue pen to make it easier. Immigration at both Vietnam exit, and Cambodia entry was speedy and easy. Ensure you only have crisp, clean USD notes. $30 for visa, and $5.00 for staff to fully assist us. There is no ATM or card facilities. We didn’t bring a photo, no problem, they scan passport photo. Didn’t cost extra. Other reviews mentioned $2 fee, ours didn’t charge us. The boat staff take care of everything. Totally worth it. They give you a little snack bag with cake, crackers bananas and a cold water. There’s wifi on the boat if you need it. Was most enjoyable travel. Definitely recommend.
